Amazon.co.uk Review Steven Spielberg's 1982 hit about a stranded alien and his loving relationship with a fatherless boy (Henry Thomas) struck a chord with audiences everywhere, and it furthered Spielberg's reputation as a director of equally strong commercial sensibilities and classical leanings. Henry Thomas gives a strong, emotional performance as E.T.'s young friend, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore make a solid impression as his siblings, and Dee Wallace is lively as the kids' mother. The special effects almost look a bit quaint now with all the computer advancements that have occurred since, but they also have more heart behind them than a lot of what we see today. --iTom Keogh/i

Alienist mushy moneymaker. August 15, 2008 4 out of 14 found this review helpful
Spielberg making money out of making children cry isn't my idea of a good film. The special effects are terrible, even when it came out they looked ropey, but again it serves to fool children. I couldn't be happy about making my money from making kids cry, and then be able to sleep at night like Spielberg does. ET himself is a plasticy Mother Teresa without lippy on, Elliot is annoying as characters go and the whole alien thing is silly. Fire in the Sky is a better alien film than this.
A brilliant childhood film for all adults June 15, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a 30 something, ET is certainly the difining film of my childhood. Watching it again is very sentimental and still brings a lump in my throat. Such a film is still magical and very sentimental.
Incredible May 8, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I first watched this film at the age of 7, and was completely drawn in within the first few minutes of this film. I loved the way the simple story line, of a young boy finding a new friend and nearly loosing him forever is unreal, and I think its something that everybody who watches this film can relate to. br /br /As for the music, I mean what can I say. John Williams has again created a masterpiece for the score of this film, which again adds to the emotion. I find myself whistling the tune over and over again!!!br /br /Probably one of the best childrens films ever!!!
Sheer Magic March 25, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first film I remember watching and to see it now brings back wonderful memories of an 80s childhood. Maybe nostalgia influences my opinion but I am sure kids of todays generation will love this as much as I did and still do.
CLASSIC September 19, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I still cry at the end. I'm nearly 40 and i tell myself it isn't right to cry at a kids film, but i'm weak, and i do. This is such a great film i can't begin to sing it's praises.br /br /Ideal for old and young, you must, must, must see it.
