Joyous March 25, 2008 I heard Bob Mortimer describe the Mighty Boosh's comedy as "joyous" and immediately realised that thats what makes it SO good. You're just watching naturally funny people on the same wavelength having a laugh, with some surreal plots and crazy costumes thrown in...and its the best comedy you'll ever see.
Charlie come a Charlie come, he's a hubba bubba nightmare! March 24, 2008 I missed this series on TV but purchased the DVD on the recommendation of my friends and I'm glad I did. I love the surreal strangeness of the series, along with the "IT Crowd" and "Darkplace" it one of the best British comedies to appear in the last few years.
The Mighty Boosh March 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have just watched the first eight episodes of the Mighty Boosh and I'm still not sure what to make of it. Whilst there are undoubtedly some moments of comedy gold, there are also many moments of pretentious nonsense. br /br /People keep telling me how original the Boosh is but I can't see anything that original at all. All the surrealist gags and DIY costumes are lifted straight from Reeves Mortimer. There's nothing necessarily wrong with taking inspiration from another comedian, Fielding and Barratt are funny in their own way but it sometimes gets a little contrived. The real humour is in the bizarre conversations between them. The ridiculous bickering results in endlessly quotable lines that will no doubt be repeated in student unions across the land for many years to come. I can see why people enjoy the Mighty Boosh but I found it a little too surreal for the sake of it and Noel Fielding's dandy foppish antics started to grate on me after about ten minutes.br /br /Like this? Try: The Smell of Reeves Mortimer
Note to self: I hate white people October 30, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Mighty Boosh is a super satisfyingly surreal comedy combining excellent dialogue, visual musical humour to stunning effectbr /br /Great base characters in the shape of Vince Noir Howard Moon, brilliant accompanying characters in the form of Naboo Bob Fossil superb one off characters found within the individual episodes.br /br /I bought this box set on a whim having seen the principal actors, Noel Fielding Julian Barrett, on panel / chat shows consumed the series within a few days. On the completion of writing this review I will be purchasing series 2 (limerick not intended).br /br /The series was so good that it drove me to submit my virgin Amazon review.br /br /P.S. Small bit of information on the show that surprised me on discovery is that the actors that play Vince Naboo are brothers - Noel Michael Fielding.br /
The Boosh is mighty! October 9, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Howard Moon and Vince Noir work at the Zooniverse, a zoo where the animals talk, where fights are held between zookeepers and kangaroos, where caddish owner Dixon Bainbridge, aided by his oafish underling Bob Fossil can trap the true owner in the Jungle Room for ten years and create hideous mutant hybrids. Howard aspires to greatness, believing himself to be an artist, actor, singer, even though he has very little talent. Vince likes pretty clothes and fit birds. There's a shaman called Naboo, a gorilla called Bollo and a fox called Jack Cooper.br /br /To say the Mighty Boosh is surreal is a bit of an understatement. It is joyously daft, featuring creatures made of bubble gum (cf. Charlie, he's a hubba bubba nightmare), silly songs about how to "calm a llama down, calm a llama down", and some of the most entertaining cross-banter since Morecambe and Wise. That much of the show is ad-libbed (despite having scripts) lends a fantastic sense of spontaneity. It has a fabulous homemade charm.br /br /The show has me in stitches every time I see it. The commentaries on the DVD are rather good too. Although rarely do they actually touch on what's going on onscreen. It's best to just let it wash over you. If you like Garth Marenghi, Father Ted, Black Books, Spaced or even the Goodies, I think you'll love this.
