Amazon.co.uk Review bGhostbusters:/bp Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (iMeatballs/i). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action. Still a lot of fun, and an obvious model for sci-fi comedies such as iMen in Black/i.p bGhostbusters II:/bp Much less fun than its predecessor, this 1989 sequel starts off on a bleak note by telling us our heroes from iGhostbusters/i have been on the skids for five years and Bill Murray's lead character never did hook up with Sigourney Weaver's lovely symphony-musician character. What's more, she has a kid by somebody else. Everybody's on an uphill climb, and iGhostbusters II/i never soars the way the first film did, despite having the same director, Ivan Reitman (Dave, Kindergarten Cop). The lame plot finds the boys attempting to prevent a disaster on New York City caused by too many bad vibes in the Big Apple. Yikes! Fortunately, screenwriters Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis have penned enough good one-liners to keep Murray busy, and if the ghostly special effects no longer surprise as they did in iGhostbusters/i, they're at least inventive.i--Tom Keogh, Amazon.com/i

There's something strange in the neighbourhood....... November 29, 2008 In this boxset there are the two movie discs and a little "movie scrapbook". The movie scrapbook is a little book (about 12 pages) with some interesting facts and drawings about the movies (a nice addition to the 2 DVDs).br /br /The movies are as good as I remember, as a child I used to be so scared of even the thought of the pink slime! Bill Murray is a legend!!br /br /Excellent value for what you get! Everyone should own this!
OH COMMAND ME LORD!!!!! December 11, 2007 They're the best, they're the beautiful, they're the only GHOSTBUSTERS. Arguably one of the best sci-fi comedies of the 80's or that of any decade. With the talented Bill Murray at the helm and Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis. Ernie Hudson not far behind. Its a great peice of classic nostalgia from our childhood. Containing both ghostbuster films personally we think that ghostbusters 2 is better GO VIGO!! and a handful of special features though not as many as you get in the ghostbusters 1 set but you do get two episodes of the classic ghostbuster cartoon. A worthwhile purchase but if you want a comprehensive ghostbusters film buy the ghostbusters 1 special edition.
Great Movie. Shame about the DVD Package!!!! September 16, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I love GHOSTBUSTERS. It's one of the best films to come out of the 80s and i already had the original DVD release of this and it's inferior sequel on DVD. When i heard this gift set was coming out i waited in anticiapation for it's release only to find that you are much better off sticking to original releases. First off, half the special features are missing from the first films dvd and the second film has two inferior animated episodes slapped on the disc to make up for having no special features at all. The other bad thing about this gift set and probably the worst is the picture quality of the transfers. The first movie is so overly enhanced that it actually makes the film look dated. The effects in it are over coloured and grain is highly visible in nearly every shot. The second films transfer is somewhat better than that of the first but it seems to have high amounts of colour slapped on the picture which give the film a colour bled look. My honest opinion is to stay away from this box set and stick to the first dvds. Even the aspect ratio is altered on the first GHOSTBUSTERS film, it was originaly 2.351 and has been altered to a 2.401 ratio cutting off some of the picture from the top and bottom of the screen. GHOSTBUSTERS fans, please avoid this at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 Great Movies In 1 Great DVD Doublepack. December 14, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ghostbusters is such a great movie,it's interesting, clever and funny all at the same time.br /The whole concept of the Proton Packs and Ghost Traps is such an original idea,as well as the ghosts such as Slimer,The Terror Dogs and the br /Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.br /Ghostbusters II was also a great movie, despite what some people say,it had some excellent scenes and comedy such as the scene when the br /Ghostbusters are in court and they trap the Scoleri Bros and the scene when they are yelling at the Mood Slime.br /And I really love the inclusion of two of The Real Ghostbusters episodes, that is just such a cool cartoon,I hope that Sony Pictures Entertainment will also eventually release Season Boxset Volumes.br /That would be fantastic, anyway I love both these movies and I watch them very regularly.br / br /br /
Awesome Blast from the Past! September 19, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was a wee kid when the first Ghostbusters came out but i remember going to the cinema and loving it from start to finish....so much that i persuaded my dad to buy tickets for the next showing.br /I was older when GB2 came out and that was awesome too. Not as funny and unique as the first one but still great fun for everyone. The best thing i loved about these films was the car they drove around in, Ecto-1 (Ecto-1A in GB2). It was a Cadillac Ambulance/Hearse with an over the top siren and lights system and in my opinion, it rocks every other vehicle to appear in a film. It could be one of the main characters in it's own right.br /I got this DVD set of the films and loads of extras and my DVD player has hardly had a break since! After watching the films over and over again, the extras will keep you occupied. Oh yeah, there are two episodes of the Real Ghosbusters cartoons as well...So many memories of this brilliant franchise...Im crossing my fingers that they will bring it back. In short, an essential purchase if you grew up in the 80's/early 90's and watched the cartoons or films. It deserves more than the 5 stars that i can only give it!
