wonderful memories, real human drama April 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I watched this show every week when it aired here in england, and had almost forgotten about it untill i saw it was available here on Amazon. William Shatner is wonderful as TJ Hooker, who, after his partner is killed and he himself is seriously wounded; turns his back on the gold badge and goes back to the beat and to trianing new rcruits. Adrian Zmed (Grease 2) is wonderful as Rookie Vincent Romano who is partnered with Hooker. hooker really cares and feels the pain of those who are the victims of crime. None more so when poainful memories are dragged up as Romano is wounded and Hooker helps him face his fears while fending off a false charge that he shot and killed an unarmed young man. i was so glad i took another look at TJ Hooker revisit the days when T.V was this good.
An old favourite well worth a look March 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Being a Star Trek fan I had heard about Williams shantners cop show T J Hooker. Id heard it was a cheesy show, so to see for myself I bought the first two series and to be honest I was pleasently surprised. The show is about T J Hooker a former dectective who after being wounded goes back to training recruits and patroling the beat and the show follows his patrols ( and for a normal cop he solves a lot of the districts crimes.) Alright its unmistakenly 1980s but if you like cop shows then this is definatley up your street. The story lines are solid and the acting for an 80s show is pretty decent. Even Shatner who has a reputation for hamming his roles up produces a great performence as Hooker and you really believe his moral views and critques on the American law system. The second season also has a young heather Locklear as a fellow cop on the beat. This bit of 80s nostalga is well worth a look and is a must have for William Shatner fans.
Still great viewing.....an entertaining romp..with guest stars! April 21, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this set cheap and wondered if it would hold up to my expectations as I used to watch it as a kid, really enjoyed it and perhaps the more MATURE ahem me would now think it rather juvenile. Im glad to say that I have sat and watched all 20+ episodes and REALLY enjoyed it, the chemistry between Romano and Hooker is superb...very funny at times and the addition of Heather Locklear is the icing on the cake. OK, so it seems a bit basic compared to todays more flashy shows but its still superb and William Shatner is great in anything, a very watchable actor. It seems to me that he really relished the role and anyone who enjoys him in Star Trek should see this series, hes very convincing as a cop and rather energetic also.br /br /An added bonus to these dvds is that they have mistakenly put on the first 2 episodes from season 3 also so thats even more Hooker for your money, and they have the more snazzy opening titles compared to the first 2 seasons so you can compare them (remember Heather throwing her nightstick at some fleeing criminals legs and knocking him over...season 3 opening credits!). One of the 2 Season 3 episodes included is CARNAL KNOWLEDGE, the episode in which Heather Locklear becomes an exotic dancer to capture a white slave trader, a rather famous Hooker episode for Locklear fans due to her lengthy dance routines in a skimpy outfit.br /br /Keep an eye out for some interesting guest stars in these dvds also, the Beach Boys make a fleeting appearance and even Jerry Lee Lewis gets in on the act, performing and acting as himself...first time Ive ever seen him acting a role in anything.br /br /The highlight of the set? well I mentioned the Locklear dancing BUT for me, the funniest moment of all was the Beach Boys episode in which William Shatner boogies away at the concert, his dancing is tongue in cheek and very funny, as is an early episode featuring Romano dancing, his dancing is obviously the style that was all the range in the early 80s (an extravagent post 70s, energetic dance style that looks like hes having a fit) and it will be good to see your kids watch him and say "tell me dad, please, you NEVER danced like THAT did you! back in the 80s"
