Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Considering the TV series IPolice Squad/I managed a mere six episodes, it's no small testament to its qualities that it proved the inspiration for a trio of cinematic hits. And this bringing together of all three INaked Gun/I films delivers, as the original series did, a belly-load of laughs. P Each is a spoof, very much in the spirit of the original IAirplane/I (unsurprising, as the same people are involved), with the focus this time being on Leslie Nielsen's Lt Frank Drebin, a well-meaning yet chaotic detective who, along with George Kennedy's Capt Ed Hocken, O.J.Simpson's Nordberg and Priscilla Presley's Jane finds himself with crimes to solve, and nothing but sheer ineptitude to help him. P The plot in each movie clearly takes a back seat, as each film is an exercise in throwing as many gags at the wall and hoping they stick. The hit rate in the first of the three is high enough to genuinely warrant it being a modern day comedy classic, with clever sight gags and more elaborate sequences keeping the chuckle count high and constant. Neither sequel gets close to it, but both do have their moments too. Crucially, as none of the films outstays its welcome, thanks to their relatively brief running times, each emerges as an enjoyable, joyfully silly and frequently funny comedy, set to be enjoyed time and time again.--ISimon Brew/I

4 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmm?   December 31, 2008
I saw the first film in this trilogy some years ago and thought it hilarious. I have no reason to change that opinion. It is totally daft. Leslie Neilsen is perfect as the gormless but dedicated polis and Priscilla Presley is delightful and believable - "I'm just boiling a roast" must be one of the funniest lines ever. br /The next is a typical sequel - out to take advantage of the success of the frst. br /But the less said about the third - the better. The story-line is ridiculous, there is no logic and the character of Drebin has deteriorated - he is simply a fool. Scenes and situations are dragged out until they die of old age and that is a deliberate comment to emphasise the absurdity and and the story line cannot even be called convoluted which the first one is and the differing character portrayals are over-emphasised and all this is written in one sentence, if you can be bothered to read this far. And that's wnat the film is like. The set has only one good film - the first. The second is merely adequate and the third a total waste of time. Amendment, one humourous scene - when Drebin is on stage at the end with Raquel Welch and the "Prompt Box" and I would say the Prompt Box and Miss Welch are the stars of that scene. But if you only want the first film the set is worth buying - the others are mere adjuncts. 'Nuff sed.

3 out of 5 stars first two o.k, last one pants.   November 14, 2008
Even allowing for their age, they totally lost the plot, and the scriptwriter, in the 3rd film, which simply should never have been made.Plus while they were funny at the time, the humour is now warm rather than laugh out loud, so three stars it gets, which is by no means a poor score. There aint nothing wrong with warm.

Anyone familiar with "Airplane" will know what to expect from these films . Leslie Neilsen is once again fabulous as the hapless Frank Drebin , and is assisted in his hilarious escapades by George Kennedy , Pricilla Presley and O.J Simpson . Wonderfully silly , and great fun .
