Cockney boys Tom, Soap, Eddie and Bacon are in a bind; they owe seedy criminal and porn king "Hatchet" Harry a sizeable amount of cash after Eddie loses half a million in a rigged game of poker. Hot on their tails is a thug named Big Chris who intends to send them all to the hospital if they don't come up with the cash in the allotted time. Add into the mix an incompetent set of ganja cultivators, two dimwitted robbers, a "madman" with an afro, and a ruthless band of drug dealers and you have an astonishing movie called iLock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels/i. Before the boys can blink, they are caught up in a labyrinth of double-crosses that lead to a multitude of dead bodies, copious amounts of drugs, and two antique rifles.p Written and directed by talented newcomer Guy Ritchie, this is one of those movies that was destined to become an instant cult classic a la iReservoir Dogs/i. Although some comparisons were drawn between Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino, it would be unfair to discount the brilliant wit of the story and the innovative camerawork that the director brings to his debut feature. Not since iThe Krays/i has there been such an accurate depiction of the East End and its more colourful characters. Indicative of the social stratosphere in London, iLock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels/i is a hilarious and at times touching account of friendships and loyalty. The director and his mates (who make up most of the cast) clearly are enjoying themselves here. This comes across in some shining performances, in particular from ex-footballer Vinnie Jones (Big Chris) and an over-the-top Vas Blackwood (as Rory Breaker), who very nearly steals the show. Full of quirky vernacular and clever tension-packed action sequences, iLock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels/i is a triumph--a perfect blend of intelligence, humour and suspense. i--Jeremy Storey/i

I love this film.br /Fast - funny - pacy and full of great true to life characters - it is the closest thing to perfection.br /It is right up there with Get Carter - Till Death Us Do Part and A Clockwork Orange.br /The best thing to come out of British Cinema for more than 20 years - I would love a sequal.

3 out of 5 stars Amazing film/Good Extras!   June 14, 2006

As you all know, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is one of Britain's best loved films so i wont talk about the movie. The reason for this review is to see whether it is worth buying over the original DVD that was released about 7 years ago. I have both and the only difference is that the new 2 disc edition does have a fair amount of extras that add up to just over an hour. The main 50 minute feature which is the making of.. is very good and often funny to watch with interviews from both 1998 and 2005. Then theres a few trailers and tv spots, an additional 10 mintute featurette that talks about the editing of the movie, an interactive east london map with the films locations, and a very funny if a little immature 2 minute featurette titled 'lock stock and two f**king barrels which just consists of random scenes with all the swear words. br /br /As for the picture and sound quality of the movie, it definitely hasnt improved from the last DVD and unfortunately is still a little poor. Guess we'll just have to wait for the High Definition DVD to come out to get perfect quality.br /br /Undoubtedly, i definitely prefer the newer version even though the extras could have definitely been better, a director's commentary from Guy Richie would have been nice and the picture quality couldve have been better too. Also the featurette that was included in the last DVD isnt present in this one although all the extras on the new one are far better anyway. So if you can get this for under 10 and dont already own the older DVD version then go for it, however to those who already have the old version and are thinking of buying this 2 disc special edition then i personally wouldnt, seeing as an extra 7-10 isnt worth it for the 1 hour of extras provided on this new DVD.
