Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson give the flat-share sitcom a much needed kick up the iBottom/i in the show which, alongside iMen Behaving Badly/i (1992-8) injected new life into a legendarily dire genre. With glorious comic gusto they play Richie Rich and Eddie Hitler, a pair of misfits barely surviving unemployment in a Hammersmith hovel. They spend their life in frustration, minus female company or money, in facile schemes to entertain or better themselves, their best intentions always proving the catalyst for hilariously OTT cartoon-style violence. The humour benefits from being rude, crude and surreal, and though happily bereft of subtlety or sense the situations and set-pieces are always superbly constructed, delivered and directed. But that's only to be expected from a show that essentially presents two of iThe Young Ones/i a decade down the line.p Mayall and Edmondson had earlier perfected their surreal double act as iThe Dangerous Brothers/i and these first episodes of iBottom/i find them in side-splitting form. From a misadventure with pheromone spray and the wrong sort of dogs down the pub in "Smells" to a birthday "Accident", which introduces iThe Young Ones'/i Christopher Ryan as a regular guest character, this is BBC comedy at its best. Bottom is a classic series. The brilliance and crweativity of Rik and Ade is absolutely world class. This is a definate winner and would certaily bright up anybodys day

I have always been a fan of Bottom (but mainly Rik Mayall). This DVD set is great and I am very happy that I made the choice to purchase it. One of the best comedy series I say... just a shame it's never shown on telly anymore. I am also a fan of The Young Ones... so maybe that will be my next investment. :-)

As most reviewers have already mentioned this is not Intellectual humour, if you want that Monty Python is where to go. br /But if your just looking to spend half an hour of mindless "cartoony" humour you've come to the right place. br /Among my friends I am in a minority as they prefer "The Young Ones" but "Bottom" has always been my favourite. br /Although I do own "The Young Ones box set" as well. br /~~~~ br /All the episodes have good bits in them but for me standout episodes are:~ br /Gas:-Oh, that poor gasman! just doing his job.(My favourite.) br /Digger:- Richy nearly has a...ahem.."romantic encounter". br /'S out:- The Camping one. Pure video madness. Eddie and Rich go camping in the country. (Well twenty yards from the bus stop actually. Second favourite.) br /Hole:- Stuck at the top of a ferris wheel. A good character development story, and we learn Rik's character has br /... a SISTER! I won't take long because I could go on all day about how good Bottom is. If you don't like it you must have a humour deficiency, and if you've never seen it hurry up and watch it. As previous reviewers have said this is comedy that you can never get tired of watching again and again...the jokes are still as funny and the painful bits still hurt to watch. The one that always make me cry with laughter is Eddie trying to remove Richies incredibly tight Thong with a blow-torch - Richie reading the 'Joy Of Sex' in about 1 minute before he's actually going to 'Do It'. I also love the Camping Episode, but the rest are a close run thing...Eddies violence and Richies facial expressions are just pure British Comedy and no one will ever be able to touch them in this type of humour. Superb !!!

I'm sorry I just have to sneeze for about four minutes ... because some poeple don't like this series!!!?? ShOck sHoCK hOrRor HoRror ... WHAT??? Are you nuts? Do you not laugh at things in general or are you just in a bad mood today?? OK, so it is a little violent, and a little sick, given, but c'mon, unless you find "Crossroads" and "Home and Away" funny (yes i took the time and liberty to """" them and i've never watched them but they sound pretty rubbish) them you would be mad not to at least taster this comedy... try it, it rocks! (download it off the internet for free if you like) WARNING: it is very violent, it is very rude, alot of toilet humour is envolved, but anything entitled "Bottom" you wouldn't really expect to find on your elderly Grandmother's shelf.br /br /I am not a sensible reviewer since i couldn't care less.
