3 out of 5 stars This is okay....   January 16, 2007

...but if you're going to rent one Peter Gabriel DVD then make sure it's the 'Growing Up' one. It is far superior to this one in as much as I thought the sound to be better and being the one concert (admittedly filmed over two nights) made it seem more complete. There's nothing wrong with this one, the other one is just much better.br /br /(This review based on Disc 1 only as that's what comes when you rent!)

5 out of 5 stars Superb DVD for all fans of PG   January 17, 2006

Got this DVD for Christmas after reading a great review. I was not disappointed.brA great choice of songs and the interviews on the second disc are a welcome addition. brI shall now go buy the Growing Up DVD so I can get the whole picture of the tour.

5 out of 5 stars Still Great!!!   December 18, 2005

This DVD cannot be compared to the GU 2003 Tour. It captures songs not included on the previous DVD and the ambience is quite different as it was shot around Europe in small festivals which gives a new perspective. It includes a second DVD with interviews between each song and I highly recommend it.

I saw PG 3 times at his GU tour in 2004, and its an impressive concert and performance. Alse the first DVD GU tour is a great piece of memory to me (since I saw that video-recorded concert in Milan 2004). But tihs dvd is just very nice to keep as a document and watch once. There is no show with his perfect concepted rounded-stage here and there is no perfomance with Zorb ball either. Some perfomance are made in their Realworld studio. Its just like a home work for private use. I dont get it. Im just dissapointed with this dvd. I like all what PG is doing and his promotion of new artist and musicians. But This dvd doesnt make me happy to watch it like the first GU tour dvd.

5 out of 5 stars Totally unmissable for any fan of PG's music   November 15, 2005

This new Peter Gabriel double DVD is a real cracker.pDisc 1 is a clever compilation from various small-venue concerts but unlike some DVD's of this type, it isn't always obvious where one concert ends and another begins. The audience sound is continued through and matched so that it's almost seamless.pThere are some well known songs (Red rain, Secret world, games without frontiers, San Jacinto, Digging in the dirt, Solsbury Hill (of course), Sledgehammer, Come talk to me and Biko) but all are films that haven't been released before and all are often quite different from those we have seen - either in the way they're performed or the arrangements. (Games without frontiers is very unusual).pThere are also far more unusual songs such as White ashes (VERY creepy), Burn you up, burn you down and The tower that ate people.pBy far the most moving performance (it brought a lump to my throat and more than one tear to my jaded eyes) is 'Come talk to me'. He performs it with his daughter and from the way it was performed; the way he glanced across at her mid-way through, and the way it ended, I'd suspect that this tour was one of the first times they'd sung it together. Very, VERY emotional.pONE TIP: have subtitles turned on because PG introduces several songs in French and these are well worth following if you're not fluent in the language.pDisc 2 is a perfect complement for the 'Growing Up Family Portrait' DVD in that it provides a further host of fascinating insights into PG's ideas, ways of working and attitudes to both life and music.pAny fan of PG will thoroughly enjoy this DVD not only because of the music and the quality of sound and vision, but also because of the honesty with which PG talks about himself and his music.pWhat would now be REALLY interesting would be a third documentary showing the various stages of PG at work writing and recording in his studio. (I recall a 'Southbank Show' film from years ago when he recorded PG4. That would be a great 'Extra' for any such DVD)
