2 out of 5 stars Disturbing (in a bad way), but with some good bits   May 30, 2008

There were bits of this film that I liked. I especaially liked the "performance art" with the shoes. However, I have to say I spent the whole film worrying about the damage that was being done to the child actors being asked to take part in such adult themes - most especially the youngest. Some films are disturbing in a way that makes you think. This was just disturbing in a way that was wrong.

1 out of 5 stars dull as dishwater   March 26, 2008

I think this one may have gone over my head. I found all the scenes where children are experimenting with sexuality offensive, rather than thought provoking. The 'art' of the main character seemed lacking in any kind of depth or insight. Loved various other films in a similar genre eg 'I Heart Hucakbees' and 'Lost in Translation' but really wished I hadn't bothered with this one.

4 out of 5 stars Almost there   January 13, 2008

I very much enjoyed this film, i thought some of the ideas 'quirks' in it were endearing and imaginative, (eg. the relationship being the length of the street) and yes, at the end i did feel like it had changed my outlook on the world for a little bit, even if it was only the 15 minutes before i fell asleep. br /br / The problem with this film is, it promises so much, and you can see it getting there, but nothing comes together and links the characters together in one great, thought provoking finale. Yes, they are all linked together through each other, but theres still something missing, and i was left with a feeling of dissapointment, as if the film ended without anyone -really- experiencing anything life changing. br /br / One great aspect though is the realisation half way though the movie of just how removed the way each person interacts with eachother is from real life. I cant imagine myself, or anyone i know being quite as open as the people are in the movie, which gives it a quite enjoyable 'alien' quality. br /br /In short, i felt that some scenes and sub plots could have been left out and i wouldnt have missed them, but some will stay with me for a while.br /br /I can see why some might hate it, but i recommend you watch it anyway, and make your own mind up.

5 out of 5 stars Strangely Compelling   October 30, 2007
1 out of 2 found this review helpful

This is one of the most strangely compelling films I have ever seen.br /br /I cannot identify exactly why I liked it, but I could not stop watching it and was left wanting more. By subtly challenging your perceptions of personal social issues - without ever thrusting it in your face - the melancholic atmosphere provokes a range of emotions rarely achieved and the superb soundtrack only adds to the character of the film.br /br /The slow pace and odd characters will certainly not appeal to all. But if you like things a little out-of-the-ordinary then give it a try and you might just uncover a gem.

5 out of 5 stars Living artist spotted.   October 29, 2007

This movie tickles the parts that other movies do not reach. ))(( is as succinct a comment about human foibles ass (sic) you're likely to encounter!!! The scene when Miranda walks down the street with the shoe salesman is one of the great romantic scenes in cinema history... romance trashed by fear a minute later! Fabulous.
