4 out of 5 stars I want a Porshe!   August 11, 2008
This is a really good 80's movie and is about a cop (Benjy) who goes undercover in order to get evidence on Charlie Sheen's character, Ted Varrick, who is stealing Porche's. Benjy's superior (played by Randy Quaid) also believes that Ted might be behind the killing of a cop so it's up to Benjy to find out...br /br /There's no extras on the DVD but it's still worth picking up for a couple of quid for the movie alone. Also anyone who's seen and likes 'The Fast and the Furious' would definitely like this and would enjoy finding the similarities.

4 out of 5 stars An early Point Break   April 5, 2006
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

It's a familiar concept. Rookie cop gets a lucky break and a chance to prove himself by working undercover, ostensibly under the guise of gathering information about the prime suspect and thus nail a conviction. But as a result of getting closer to the bad guy, the rookie begins to question his loyalties. Does he switch sides?pPoint Break (Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze) became the defining film of the concept. The Fast and The Furious (Paul Walker, Vin Diesel) followed it up - and was often referred to as 'Point Break with cars'.pBut No Man's Land is the earliest version in modern-day cinema that I can think of.pIt's even got the girl with the connection to the bad guy that proves too much of a temptation to the rookie.pUltimately, No Man's Land doesn't quite have the depth of Point Break, but this is 1987, so think of it as 'easy viewing'. The end is a little unsatisfying - the build-up is there, present and correct, but blink and you'll miss the finale.pThat said, there are Porsches everywhere, and there's much to remind the misty-eyed of the wonderful '80s.pCheck it out. But if you haven't seen Point Break yet, watch this one first. Then enjoy the comparison.
