When you are a tall strapping man who dresses like a woman for a living, finding a pair of sexy but durable shoes can be worth your weight in gold. Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor)--a drag queen also known as Simon--finds her shoe salvation in straight-laced Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton), who has inherited his father's shoe factory. Unable to pay the bills making traditional loafers and wingtips, Charlie agrees to make Lola a pair of kinky boots that turn out to be so fabulous the pair end up going into business together. They face a few obstacles, such as the bawdy union workers who aren't too keen on taking orders from a drag queen who's more of a man than they are. Then there's Charlie's posh real estate girlfriend, who wants to convert the factory into pricey condos. While the movie doesn't provide any real surprises (or even any scenes as suggestive as its title might suggest), the film (which is loosely based on a true story) is highly entertaining that will delight fans of both comedy and shoes. i--Jae-Ha Kim/i

 Film making at it's best. October 12, 2008
This film should be in everyone's collection, if only because it showcases two of the best young actresses on the circuit; Jemima Rooper and the always outstanding Sarah Jane Potts. I first caught Sarah Jane playing Warren Clarke's 'punk' daughter in 'The Locksmith'. Following that she turned up opposite Ian Richardson in a version of 'The Canterbury Ghost'. These two roles couldn't be more different, yet they were both carried off very convincingly. Anyone who has seen Ms Rooper in the remake of 'The Railway Children' and 'Hex' will not need my recommendation.br /br /That said, the film doesn't rely on either of them, such is the quality of the cast and direction. It's funny and moving in equal proportion and manages to leave you feeling good! br /br /Chick Flick? Perhaps, but what's wrong with that?

Kinky Boots has its funny moments with Lola however this film is your average chick flick - it's amusing the first time you watch it but it loses its value after that. It is a film to see once but not to purchase.

Couldn't wait to watch this film, the title, the premise ect who wouldn't? Started to watch and found myself winding it (fast forwarding) every few minutes even though I am the sort of person who will stay to the end of a film just to view the final credits! I was hoping for a "Priscilla Queen of the desert" mixed with "Billy Elliot" come "The full Monty" and came away deeply disappointed. I could not work out whether this was supposed to be a comedy or gay/musical? It achieved neither in my eyes; the acting was quite good but the script has nowhere near enough spunk of "Priscilla Queen of the desert", "Billy Elliot" or even the "Full Monty". Some of the musical choices were very good e.g. "Back to my roots" but overall I was left totally disspointed.

I know some find it a recycled formula of 'Full Monty', but I must say I still love it and have a very good laugh. A lazy way to describe the film is 'Full Monty' meets 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert', but 'Kinky Boots' has more than that. What a shame it doesn't have encouraging response when it was released on cinema screen. It deserves much more attention and I hope it will gradually have some cult followings.

'Kinky Boots' is a great British comedy that shows home talent to superb effect. The story is both hilarious and touching by turns and will keep you watching until the end. The story is original and apparently based on true events. Some of the phrases that 'Lola' comes out with will crack you up and the northern discomfort around transvestites makes for various humorous scenes. Overall it is well acted and directed, with a good soundtrack and is one that the blokes can enjoy as much as (or at least as well as) the ladies. Worth a viewing.
