5 out of 5 stars Little Known Gem.   August 20, 2006

This Terry Jones movie really deserves to be much better known. Funny. Intelligent. Poignant. The scene in which King Terry Jones'br /dischordant society diappears under floodwaters, denying to the end that there is anything wrong is as perfect a global warmingbr /denial analogy as I have ever seen. And its musings on the nature of religion are smarter than in any other film I can think of.br / Don't let the DVD cover put you off. If you've not seen this movie, buy it now.

5 out of 5 stars funny movie with a message   March 24, 2006

I bought this movie mainly because I'm a Python fan. And I was pleasantly surprised that it was not just another Viking movie. The underlying message that there is more to life than rape and pillage is excellent. Just goes to show that one can also do a good movie without a big budget.

5 out of 5 stars "We are the gods. We can not make men love each other."   February 13, 2006

Erik encounters a woman that makes him think (Samantha Bond). He confronts his grand father with the age old question of why young men have to fight. Erik, ?I met this woman, she got me to thinking." Grandfather "What did you do?" Erik, "I killed her."pFrom this and other conversations Erik finds he must go on a quest to end The Age of Ragnorok. In the process they must do a parody of many old movies such as "The Vikings" (Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis), "Felinni - Satyricon.", and many Viking myths. Will he complete the quest and also confront the girl of his dreams (Samantha Bond) or will he fail, and sword makers everywhere will have job security?pEveryone does an excellent job of acting. And if you liked Samantha Bond, she is in many other English classics as Agatha Christie's "Murder is Announced" and "Rumpole of the Bailey"

I saw this when I was little and have been looking for it ever since. One of the things I love about the Python movies and off-shoots is that it's never assumed that just because something's a comedy, it needn't look good and it looks great - the costumes, sets and everything are really top notch. It's this solemn setting that makes you almost forget you're watching a comedy and then someone makes a joke and it makes it even more funny! brI love the bone-headed maschismo of the Vikings, especially Sven and his dad. I also used to have unhealthy fantasies about Tim Robbins with his long red hair for some reason.
