Not ashamed to love it! September 27, 2008 As an ex film studies student I have all the usual DVD's anyone would expect someone to own who has a genuine love of movies. All the classics. br /br /The Covenant is a guilty secret and is kept in the bottom drawer along with my very well used copy of The Marine, my episodes of Supernatural and anything I have starring The Rock.br /br /This is tripe but it's just fantastic...Apparently they have magical powers? I can't say I pay much attention but they can certainly floor me with a look! Also if the ability to fill a pair of speedoes whilst not looking a total prat was a power then they would rock. br /Don't be fooled, this is for slumber parties and single women like me who are old enough to know better....hmmmmbr /
my kind of chick flick August 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't understand why people complain about the "depth" of the story when this film was obviously designed to be a bit of fun. I would suggest they try Shakespeare - but they'd probably pick fault with the plot holes in Macbeth, Henry V, etc.br /br /It makes a nice change for us females to have a fluffy action film with five attractive male leads to drool over, rather then the usual nubile young females struting around in their bra and panties or flashing the flesh for no apparent reason.br /br /Yes, the script is a little on the lightweight side but so are the Hammer Horror Dracula, Frankenstein and Mummy scripts. As for any plot holes, due to theatrical time constraints there are bound to be bits that have been left on the cutting room floor. I, personally, would like to have seen a full edition of this film with the extra footage included on the dvd release.br /br /The extras are poor but they are the same as the American version so I can't really complain (what am I saying of course I can complain - were are the outtakes, the cast commentaries, and the other items which usually come as standard?)br /br /I'll be honest with you - I like this film, I like it a lot, and I'm not going to apologise for that. It is one of the few films that I can put on my computer and watch while I do my work, or put in the dvd player and watch with family, including my mother. It's nice to have a film that isn't dependent on foul language and nudity to try and keep your attention because it has little or no story.br /br /I read the reviews of this film and though I'd make up my own mind - I would suggest that you do the same.br /br /Possible spoilers be here - The Coventant involves our five handsome leads, and a couple of nubile girlfriends thrown in for the male viewers. Four of these boys have been raised together "like brothers", the other should have been part of the group but it was believed that his bloodline had died out during the Salem Witch hunts. When the boys turned 13 the received limited "witchcraft" abilities and the knowledge that using these abilities are addictive and each use will shorten their lives - something which no-one explained to the fifth boy until it was too late and he was an addict. At the age of 18 they will gain their full powers, Caleb is due to assend to his full power when the film starts and what follows are the discovery of Chase's true identity, the reasons for the fifth boys appearance at the private school and the build up to the final battle.br /br /I don't go for "chick flicks" all that romance, I much prefer action - like I said - this is my kind of chick flick. Some good looking male totty with added action, and limited slushy bits. Nice :)
I loved it! March 8, 2008 Dispite the other customer reveiws..i loved this film, although it is rather cheesy.. its also seductive and playful...it ends abruptly..and it could be sexier...but it is a good film i have watched it many times..
Excellent February 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read peoples reviews of this film and how bad it is and i dont see where they are coming from. I watched this film and instantly loved it. The actors and story line is good, the special effects are good. Amd I overall loved it and the way that it is all about 5 families that supposedly started the Ipswich colony and how they were witches.br /br /You must watch this film because it is an event that you will love also.
The Covenant January 30, 2008 This film had the potential to be so much more. It should have been at least 30 minutes longer to explain powers, history and the use of darklings. The young cast do their best to carry it through to the end, but are sadly let down with editing and writing. I would still watch it again as it is entertaining, but its very sad it was not better than it was, as it was so capable of being.br /I really wanted to award 3 stars, but feel that is just a litle generous.
