BRILLIANTLY funny spoof film - so good you won't notice the bad DVD copy! July 25, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My family and I have loved this film for many years. A spoof of Bulldog Drummond, set in the 1930's, a kind of old fashioned-boys comic-book action figure (even super hero) that is the very dashing and indestructible Bullshot Crummond, flying ace. A brilliant, ever-so-British comedy as our hero saves the world from his evil arch enemy that is Count Otto Von Bruno.br /'Is there any limit to to this mans tenacity' as one character rightly put it in the film... The comedic elements centre around the fact that there is simply nothing that Bullshot Crummond cannot do! br /br /I brought the DVD when I first saw it on sale in this format and although I noticed that the copy quality was not too good I must be honest I never really noticed the bad cropping of the picture at all. I know that reviewers comment extensively on this but I watched it and it never bothered me, in fact I have watched it several times and not really noticed and it certainly did not alter my enjoyment of the film. Its one of those funny feel-good films worthy of a look by any light-hearted individual and so wonderfully stirs a proud modicum of English patriotism. Give it a try.br /br /'...Just Brittish!!!'br /br /
GREAT film LOUSY copy ! June 9, 2007 This production has well stood the test of time - brilliant comedy in the style of " RIPPING YARNS " but flawed here for the lousy cropping - heads in several cases, and the famous ' Teutonic gesture ' totally missing ! Wide screen version my aunt ! Certainly not remastered for dvd release either - for shame !!br /br / PLEASE someone get it right - along with many others I've waited ages for this to come out and its not done justice at all.
Great Film - Poor copying of the film May 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its a very funny film from the "Handmade" stable - but the quality of the DVD is very poor - they must have got the Telekine wrong as they have managed to cut the heads of the actors - there is also a intermitant scratch half way through and toward the end, I think maybe the "production company" got there hands on a old cinema copy and did a quicke copy to dvd for the UK market, Maybe a DVD from the USA would be better? br /It also appears quite grainy and not very sharp in it picture quality.br /br /:( br /
the format killed the film April 30, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I remember Bullshot from seeing it on Channel 4 years ago. The jokes are still as good, the tone and the overall style of the thing are irresistable. But when you can't see the heads of most of the cast, due to the appalling formatting of the thing, it becomes not only a waste of money, but a tragic way of killing a good film. It feels as though you are watching it through a shop window, staring at someone else's TV. This was a classic film, a lovely British comedy of the first rank, and the producers of this DVD have destroyed it.
Good film, awful DVD April 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bullshot is a funny, fast-moving spoof with a great cast of Brit comedy and character actors.br /This DVD release is cheap to buy, but I really can't recommend it. The picture has been 'blown up' to fit a widescreen frame, with the result that the top and bottom of the image have been heavily cropped. This frequently results in characters' heads being 'cut off', as other reviewers have noted. Occasionally the cropping is so bad that some scenes are almost incomprehensible if you haven't seen the film before.br /Very poor, even for a budget DVD.
