Product Description Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ian Holm, Emmy Rossum, Arjay Smith, Austin Nicholls
Amazon.co.uk Review Anyone looking for any kind of realistic consideration of the problem of climate change is in completely the wrong place with IThe Day After Tomorrow/I. Employing scientific conventions and explanations that you could rightly describe as ?ropey?, it nonetheless does manage to deliver an entertaining slice of science fiction, and some high concept blockbuster fun. P Directed by Roland Emmerich, whose previous examples of spectacle cinema include IIndependence Day/I and IGodzilla/I, IThe Day After Tomorrow/I sees a new ice age dawning on the Earth, and in double quick time too. Caught in the midst of it all are Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid, as a separated son and father, with the former in New York and the latter in Washington. Quaid?s climatologist sets off to find and rescue his offspring, across a desperate ice-laden wasteland replete with umpteen threats along the way. P Taken as a slice of easy blockbuster entertainment, it?s hard not to glean some enjoyment out of IThe Day After Tomorrow/I. You may sit there trying to work out why some things freeze and some things don?t, but you can?t help but marvel at the terrific special effects, and the breezy pace of it all. In high definition, as you?d hope and expect, it all looks even better, and gives a meaty workout for any 1080p-ready display. Just don?t take it all that seriously? --IJon Foster/I

Good effects same old American plot December 14, 2008 If you have seen many American films over the years and find them cheesy and predictable then you better give this one a miss as it uses the same boring old formula. However the effects are good quality and makes good use of Blu Ray. Please guys start producing some more original films rather than sticking to the tried and tested American Dream rubbish!

An Excuse To Overdo SFX June 17, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Day After Tomorrow was that movie that was simply made as an excuse to have a 2 + hour film filled with ridiculously over the top special effects. The story is nothing to write home about which is really what killed this movie, actually the whole story seemed very cliche as a climatologist races against time in order to convince the world and the government that they need to change their ways or global warming will destroy the Earth. Obviously this was a sensitive subject matter as even now the mass media are still quite hysterical over the possibility of a new Ice Age thanks to global warming.br /br /Dennis Quaid plays Jack Hall the climatologist who once he learns that the climate shift that will bring the new Ice Age is coming much faster than expected, he's in a race against time to make it to New York to be with his son but he may be too late as the oceans rise at a rapid rate flooding New York in a matter of minutes. The real question is, will his son survive and will he make it to New York. Yes, that's it, that's the entire story in a nutshell, there's no other real story apart from a mild mannered love story between Sam Hall (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Laura Chapman (Emmy Rossum) but again that's nothing to really go on about.br /br /Overall this is quite a mediocre film with, sure great effects but apart from that it's really nothing special. If you enjoy films with great effects and not much depth then you may enjoy this, but if you're looking for a film with even a half decent story then this is something you shouldn't really waste your time on.
