5 out of 5 stars Extremely funny, extremely offbeat!   April 5, 2005

This kooky movie is the sequel to Hot Shots! and takes aim at the movie Rambo. In this story, Topper Harley (played by Charlie Sheen) must return to Iraq to rescue a group of people held hostage by that evil madman, Saddam Hussein. Surrounded by a group of equally crazy and trigger-happy misfits, Topper goes in with guns blazing, setting out to make this the bloodiest (and silliest) movie ever! [Color, released in 1993, with a running time of 1:26.]

This is an extremely funny, extremely offbeat movie from that king of funny, offbeat movies - Jim Abrahams. If you are familiar with Mr. Abrahams' other movies, Airplane and The Naked Gun, then you know just what kind of zaniness he is capable of. Well, this movie lives up to the standards set by those other Abrahams hits.

The story is quite funny, with lots of slapstick, sight gags, and all around silliness. Now, it does have one silly sex scene that will embarrass you to watch in front of your adolescent children, so you should be ready. But, beyond that, it is a silly movie that is a lot of fun for adults and kids alike. I highly recommend this movie!

The purest form of comedy. Simply hilarious. Droll to the core.
The bases of all laughter. Comedy so funny it burns. JUST PERFECT!

Hot Shots Part Deux is deadly funny. UNMISSABLE

BUY IT, TWICE.

Such complex yet simple humour, TRUE HILARITY.

Beats every other comedy. Beats every other film.
PURE PERFECTION.

To die without watching it is to waste your life. LIFE ALTERING!

Watch it, Soon

4 out of 5 stars High flying comedy on Firmer ground.   October 19, 2002

Hot Shots part Deux is one of those true glories.....A sequel which excels it's predecessor. Following on from the aviation antics of the first film this one finds the lead character, Topper Harley, living up to the Rambo and Commando traditions as he leads a mission to rescue a group of soldiers held prisoner by the malevolent Saddam Hussein (No...Really).

He's assisted in this endeavour by his love interest from the first film as well as an elite squad of soldiers (Including Robocop's Miguel ferrer and Comedian Ryan Stiles).

The film manages to integrate and pastiche a great many war films, and quite a few others as well (Including Star Wars and Terminator II......There's even a Wizard of Oz gag in there).

Whilst the plot is not much to write home about, the dialogue is wonderful, and you find yourself concentrating intently on the film so you don't miss any of the sight gags (Like the Map in the briefing room, which shows the Team's target, located between lands shown as 'Iraq' and 'A hard place').

There are some great performances...Charlie Sheen manages to get through the whole thing with a clean deapan style, whilst Lloyd Bridges leaves no scenery unchewed in his role as the president of the USA.

It's not Shakespeare, and in it's favour it never aspires to greatness, but as a work of comedy it excels.
