3 out of 5 stars curse of the 'B'-hemoth;   May 21, 2008

I finally have finally viewed this hard-to-find item [at least in the UK] and it is a mixed bag of routine melodrama and effective suspense.br /br /The first part of the movie entails a too-large cast of unknown curio actors, sombrely relaying the proceedings with stoney-faced conviction.br /br /It's the BEHEMOTH we shelled out to see, however, and when he finally appears, he is an effective, memorable addition to the annals of ANIMATED MODELDOM. Working exceptionally well in extreme close-up, the hyper-detailed model exudes slimy menace, and is enhanced with several cuts that blend in live-action stampeding from the human victims within the same frame.br /br /Good use is made of partial-miniature sets and even cut-out background photos of buildings, [a far cry from KING KONG animator WILLIS O'BRIEN'S glory days] and there are many nice atmospheric animation cuts, however a key scene based around the HOUSES of PARLIAMENT comes across as too 'TOYTOWN'-looking.br /br /Typical O'BRIEN touches include incorporating live-action footage of flowing water, and a live-action substitute of the monster's neck and head are utilized, similarly to one scene in 'KING KONG'.br /br /This film is essentialy for completists of collectors of O'BRIEN'S work,[and enthusiasts of movie MONSTER MAYHEM in general] and considering the low asking price, is a worthy purchase.br /br / , clear print to boot.

5 out of 5 stars A stunning work of artistic genius   October 16, 2007

One of the finest "Englische neo-Realismus" films of the Fifties. Director Eugene Lourie plumbs the depths of eldritch horror with his groundbreaking, never-bettered use of stop-motion dinosaur. Star-for-hire Gene Evans excels in his portrayal of Mensch on the brink of red-hot radiation. Your mother won't like this. Buy it, buy it, buy it. Worth every last penny, dears. Buy two and give one to your simple neighbour.
