 Loved it and watched it again August 1, 2008
I felt this film stood alone, it did not matter that it was not totally authentic,( I am a fan of Austen and an English graduate but who cares it is escapism, the real JA was ugly!!) the story was beautifully portrayed and the actors were very believable, I have lost count how many times I have seen it . I adore Anne Hathaway and was ready to elope with James Mcavoy myself!!!

I watched this with 3 girlfriends (2 of which didn't know it was about Jane Austen) and we all loved it. I understand it may not be perfect with regards to the English Language back then but look on it as a modern take of those times with 2 great actors who totally draw you in. We all head tears in our eyes at certain points and now 2 of my friends know a small bit about the life of a great author and intend to start reading her books. I do have a soft spot for James McAvoy so may be biased in that department, but would definitely recommend the movie to anyone who enjoyed the Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth as Mr Darcy!br /br /br /

Loved this film, it was just perfect for someone who likes period dramas and Jane Austen ones in particular. The sparks between Jane Austen and Tom LeFroy were brilliant and it was very romantic. The acting and directing was superb and James McAvoy was lovely! Totally recommend this.

If you are a fan of period dramas avoid Becoming Jane as it is pathetic. I struggled to watch it and i'm a big fan of period dramas. The cast do a terrible job, the language is all wrong and it is just generally badly written.
