Harvey is just a darlin !! that you want to take home August 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
You dont have to be Gay or `Straight' to watch this SUPPERB film !! It is a classic. Oh..... so funny, moving and tragic. All the cast need to be mentioned as they all shine in their individual roles. Harvey, as Arnold, is just fantastic and Anne Bancroft as his Jewish mother, trying to get him married off......... to a woman !! is awesome. Anne plays a jewish mother with campness !!!
An excellent film. The best part for me, is when he goes down to colleage, where his adopted son attends in his dressing gown and rabbit slippers !!!
For those who have never heard of this film and wish to give it ago, remember it is from a Broadway Play, written by the main actor in the film, Harvey, so at the beginning, you will see the main character, getting ready to perform a drag act and talking you through a `diary format' with long flashbacks.
For those who do not know who Harvey Fernstien is. Anyone who watched ` Independence Day, Harvey is the character who is with Jeff Goldblum who keeps wittering on about having to phone his mother !!
Personally, this film should of been nominated for an Oscar !!
Heart warming and Heart breaking June 5, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm straight and female and I adore this film. It's a touching story that makes you laugh and cry. The cast are brilliant, and each actor in this film deserves a mention. Harvey Fiestein is fab as Arnold around whom the plot revolves. Matthew Broderick is brilliant as Arnold's lover Alan and the whole story is just so amazing, it's just a pity there aren't more added extras on the DVD version because I didn't want this film to end.
