This makes you remember just why they were so huge!! December 31, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Watching these shows makes you realise just what "funny" should be! These are true classics.br /br / I have been crying with laughter at their antics and it has introduced my 15 year old son to the greatest double act since "Laurel and Hardy". He is now a devotee and said he wants this DVD for his kids when he has them!br /br /It is true that some of the jokes were topical to the time of production (and may require a brief explanation as to the references occasionally) but the shows suffer very little for that. br /br /Some of the musical numbers may not be to everyones taste now, but be careful forwarding through them as there is inevitably a comedy ambush lurking in the background!br /br /The timing and interplay between the two is unequaled both now and then. The way Eric can say the most normal things and, by timing, inflection and facial expression, make them hysterically funny, is brilliance. Ernies "straight man" is selflessly played and very funny in his own right. Eric was the first to admit that he would not have worked so well alone.br /br /To be able to watch their sketches in their entirety, without the constant interruptions by comparative none-entities voicing their opinions on one of TV's "Top 100" shows, is an unbridled joy!br /br /The constant queue of big names waiting to be part of the fun is amazingbr /Their willingness to lose their dignity and the manner with which it is taken is hysterical.br /br /Their shows should be required watching by modern acts to teach them what they should be aspiring to. br /br /Children should watch Eric Ernie to show them true comedy genius.br /br /Why their regular series are not shown again by the BBC or on satellite TV is mystifying, especially when compared to some of the dross they do repeat interminably. br /br /In short if want to have a VERY big laugh with your family then there is nothing better than this. br /br /Highly recommended.br /br /I miss them :(br /br /
Merry Christmas November 23, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
The quality of the recordings, particularly of the earliest shows, is limited by the archival nature of the original material but it is not bad.br /br /The humour of Morecambe and Wise tends to 'date' somewhat with time, but many of the sketches are so original and amusing that they have become 'classics'. It is easy to see why so many rich and famous entertainers were prepared to risk their reputations by appearing in the show.br /br /Morecambe and Wise can be extremely funny without being in the least offensive. What a shame that witless oafs now manage to be extremely offensive in the name of comedy, sometimes without being the least bit funny. This collection provides genuine entertainment which will amuse entire families.br /br /

We all know we love Eric and Ern, but what you really want to know is what's on the bloomin' discs, right? br /br /Here is Disc One of the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Specials which covers the 1969, 1970 and 1971 shows. I'll add discs Two and Three as soon as I watch them.br /br /The 1969 Show: br /br /Ernie being groovybr /Ernie in the bath (Eric takes a photo)br /Monks feeding the ducksbr /Eric's giant X-Mas treebr /Song: Ninabr /Eric's giant ventriloquist dummybr /Song: Sascha Distelbr /Monks pull a pintbr /Getting Fenella Fielding in the playbr /Song: Frankie Vaughnbr /Nelson Sketchbr /Song: Bring me sunshinebr /br /The 1970 Show:br /br /Exchanging giftsbr /French Foreign Legion in the loobr /Fuel saving Carbr /Peter Cushing (cut in half)br /Song: Kenny Ballbr /Ann Hamilton over for Christmas dinnerbr /Eric Porterbr /Song: Ninabr /Edward Woodwardbr /Song: Edward Woodwardbr /William Franklinbr /The 3 Musketeers Sketchbr /br /The 1971 Show:br /br /Santa stealing giftsbr /Eric and Ernie get awards (with Dick Emery)br /Monksbr /At the chicken farmbr /Song: Los Zafirosbr /Glenda Jackson song with guests Cliff Michelmore, Frank Bough, Eddie Waring, Patrick Moore, Michael Parkinson and Robert Dougallbr /Andre 'Preview' and the Piano Concertobr /Shirley Bassey funny 'Smoke gets in your eyes'br /Song: Shirley Basseybr /Piano and water sketchbr /Francis Matthewsbr /Robin Hood Sketchbr /br /
If it ever gets here I'm sure it'll be great December 21, 2007 13 out of 26 found this review helpful
I'm giving this five stars because I have no doubt it will be great when it arrives. I watched every one of these 'live' the first time around, surrounded by my family, and am looking forward to reliving those memories, especially as sadly my family are no longer with us. But despite ordering on the 9th December, and paying for 1st Class delivery, and more infuriatingly, despite it saying a week ago that the order was being prepared and therefore couldn't be cancelled, according to the details in My Account, this has still not been despatched. I've been checking almost hourly for many days now, and the item has been in and out of stock like a yo-yo, but again, for about the third time, it's showing as In Stock so if it doesn't arrive in time for Christmas I shall be FURIOUS. Come on Amazon, get your act together and treat your loyal customers properly.
Best Comedy Ever? November 30, 2007 39 out of 45 found this review helpful
3 DVD's covering 9 Xmas Specials. Worth the money just for the 1971 show which featured the classic sketches of Shirley Bassey and Andre Previn (or is it Preview?)
