classic comedy of the old type January 2, 2009
Series 1 is amazing.It is top notch comedy without constant swearing.Old fashioned comedy which does not need the 'F'word to get a laugh.There is I think there is one 'F' word in the Christmas edition in series 2.br /The writers are to be commended in that all episodes are of top quality without exception.This is carried on into series 2 although the fantastic Megan Dodds is replaced by different blond character.br /If you ,like Lee Mack and Tim Vine then you should not be disappointed in Not Going Out.Roll on series 3 in january 2009

Unfortunately this comedy will never get the media coverage that anything Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand or any other of those one-trick ponies get, so many people will never see it - which is an enormous shame.br /br /It's not often that a sitcom gives you material to use down the pub, but this is one gag after another and unlike many of its contemporaries it's actually funny!br /br /As Lee says in the first episode, "Never judge a book by its cover, or as my old mum used to say, just because Thora Hird can't climb stairs, doesn't mean she's a Dalek."br /br /One day this programme will be discovered by the mainstream media and we'll have a classic on our hands. Buy it and have a really good laugh!

It is a rare day when I write a review of any product but this comedy series really does deserve my time in trying to persuade other people to pick up this DVD. I have never, ever, in my life found myself laughing as much or as hard at any comedy show (or any comedy performance in fact). The jokes fly thick and fast and not one misses it's target. br /br /It is clearly a series designed as a vehicle for Lee Mack's (Northerner sharp sarcasm) and Tim Vine's (Southerner dry wit) comedy material but this is in no way a bad thing. Both are comedy geniuses. They are both quintessentially British and, despite the presence of the wonderful American actress Megan Dobbs, the show is just overflowing with everything the epitomises traditional British humour. The show flows well and never stalls or slows down and each 30 minute episode feels half that length. I watched this three hour DVD straight through without actually realising the time - another plus point is that if you are newcomer to the series sitting down to watch this show for the first time with this DVD then clear the next 3 hours. It is very much a case of "I'll watch just one more episode" feeling after watching each one.br /br /It may well be that I and my circle of friends are known for being rather sarcastic people which means this comedy appeals to me (and them) more but I personally think this lends the comedy a certain non-OTT value. I actually know people who are just as sharp and witty in their sarcasm as Lee Mack is here and thus I can actually relate to the situation and the comedy in this sitcom.br /br /In short, if you like the sarcastic and caustic humour with the memorable one liners like seen in the past in series like Black Adder, Red Dwarf etc then I urge you try this series. It really is worth it.

I never watched this while it was on tv. I got this DVD as a christmas present so didn't know what to expect. I put it on on christmas day and within 10 mins I was laughing out loud at the one liners from all actors on it. It is about 2 flatmates Lee (Lee Mack) and Kate (Megan Dodds) and her ex boyfriend Tim (Tim Vine) is Lee's best friend, they get up to all sorts. Lee just drifts from one job to another living off Kate and Kate gets fed up of this. I recommend this 100%, it is much better than some comedies that are on at the moment. Go on what are you waiting for? Buy it now!

Lee Mack is simply superb in this first series and this is the funniest comedy I've seen in years.
