Amazon.co.uk Review It?s about time somebody gave the wonderful James Woods a role as good as this. IShark/I casts him as an attorney who?s happy to go about things by whatever methods get him the necessary results. Whether it involves bending the rules or cutting corners, when we meet Sebastian Stark he?s a defence attorney par excellence. P But it soon changes for him, and he ends up taking a job on the other side of the fence instead. And as he changes allegiances to become a prosecutor instead, he leads a rough and ready team on the track to getting justice. Thus begins IShark/I, another in a line of quality American legal imports that are worthy of your time. P This DVD set brings together the entire first season run of IShark/I, and there?s plenty to enjoy. Woods may have changed sides in the show, but his methods are as unconventional as ever (think IHouse/I, but in the legal system, and you?re on the right track). As a result, the show is fast, funny, and terrific entertainment. P And let?s make no bones about this: as commendable as IShark/I?s supporting cast is, it?s Woods we?re here to see, and he doesn?t disappoint. He positively eats up the screen, and it?s an absolute delight to see an actor as strong as him at the very top of his game. P Tightly scripted, swiftly directed and rarely dull, IShark/I is a treat that?s well worth taking for a spin. Highly recommended. --IJon Foster/I

Sharp, arrogant and funny October 8, 2008 An absolutely wonderful show which - like many others - was disconnected after two seasons only. Somebody please explain why? br /br /This is of course a one man show (often happens with James Woods movies). The support cast looks rather humble, as some reviewer already mentioned but it is difficult to find somebody who would not pale next to Woods. A fierce personality indeed. According to his biography, Woods initially planned to become a fighter pilot. The Air Force obviously lost a top gun there but we got one of the best and one of the most underrated actors ever.br /br /The dialogue is usually good, Woods one-liners brilliant, cases smart and interesting to watch. I loved the short leather jacket - a small ironic bow to The Hard Way and the Vampires. Very nice.br /br /Absolute must for any Woods fan. Personally I am waiting for the second season to snatch it as soon as the DVD comes out.br /
Compelling July 21, 2008 Great series once you get into the characters you will be hooked until the last episode.
Just not that special.... July 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
First up - James Woods is good. Although to be honest, when is he ever bad? That he is "good" is a given - what this show lacks is quality in every other area. Yes, it looks expensive but they clearly saved money on the scripts.br /br /Poorly conceived relationships, odd continuity and a healthy dollop of cliche. This program does NOT provide you with any insights into the legal system. br /br /If you want snappy dialogue go with "Boston Legal", if you want grit try "The Shield" or powerhouse acting get "Deadwood". Without James Woods this program would not have got beyond the pilot episode.
Almost a complete failure July 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For drama to succeed it has to be believable at the time of viewing. If you are constantly thinking this is crap then the work has a problem. With Shark there are too many improbables to give it any chance of convincing the audience that this is believable. Shark becomes a member of the DA's office. Rather than use that concept to explore the world of the DA and his relationship to crime and its social implications etc, we end up with the DA's office pursuing criminals, masterminding take downs and removing almost any need for a police force. Here the DA's office investigates the crime, gathers evidence, interviews suspects, even chases down criminals. Its pathetically bad. Its a glamourised something that has lots of gloss and no substance. If you compare it to the Shield, the Wire or even Boston Legal from a related subject matter view point you wouldnt even place in on the same planet. It is very, very, poor.

Hell, did I enjoy watching this! James Woods at his best, the biting shark but yet showing his soft side as father of a not so easy to handle teen. Just can't wait for the second season to be released on DVD over here. And I'm quite upset about CBS saying "no" to a third season. If there's a space for a jerk like Dr. House, why can't there be room for a cynic like Sebastian Stark?
