Amazon.co.uk Review The problem with vampires is that, usually, they can't go out in daylight. That means that, however menacing they might be after sunset, when morning rolls around again, the heroes can just dig 'em up and stick a stake in them. i30 Days of Night/i sidesteps the whole daylight problem by setting its story in Barrow, Alaska, a town which is so far north that during the winter, the sun doesn't rise for a month at a stretch. It's such a perfect setting for vampires that it's almost shocking no-one's thought of it before now. P i30 Days of Night/i has another trick up its sleeve, too. Its vampires aren't gothic hedonists who enjoy their claret out of jewelled goblets. Nope, these are vicious, nasty, brutal creatures who'd snap your neck as soon as look at you. They look terrifying, all misshapen foreheads and far too many teeth, and the creepy shrieking noise they make only makes it worse; they seem entirely inhuman. Barrow's isolated, blizzard-stricken location makes for a literally chilling atmosphere even before the monsters show up. P The plot loses its way towards the end, and the inevitable triumph of the heroes stretches logic to its limits, but the setting is original enough to make up for that. i30 Days of Night/i isn't a film you'll forget in a hurry. --ICatherine Haskins/I

Gory Fun November 28, 2008 I loved this film when it came out. My girlfriend who I took with me was not so keen. She hated it. I think this was more down to her aversion to horror films than a dislike for this one in particular.br /The plot such as it was had many holes. Firstly the hasty and inadequate explanation as to why nobody could use their mobile phone to summon help, was laughable. The camera zooms in on a small pile of about ten cremated mobiles. And "a bit young to be a sheriff" Josh Hartnett mumbles in true Scooby Doo fashion something about pesky kids. Nobody even thought to just drive out of town after all eighty miles aint that far. Brilliant. The vampires speaking in some sort of bizarre east european language are trully grotesque. The opening scene when their ship arrives is visually stunning. If you like a laugh some gore and a bit of a fright you should buy this. Its far superior to any of George A Romero's limping zombie offerings, he seems to be knocking them out at one a month these days.
A simple and short message November 23, 2008 Ok as it says in the title..simple and short. br /1. Do not whatever you do listen to those that give this film one, two, or even three stars. It's simple they would not recognise a classic if it bit them in the proverbial.br /2. If you love thrilling films - BUY THIS.br /3. If you love vampire films - BUY THISbr /4. If you enjoy clever but fast moving films - BUY THISbr /5. If you enjoy taut atmospheric horror / thrillers - rather than simplistic gore fests - BUY THISbr /br /Ah one last sign off - I watched this film twice in 24 hours (only the third film I've ever done that with) - I loved it that much. Second time was with my partner, who is not a horror film fan as such, and she loved it too. So just in case the message isn't clear - BUY IT.
awesome vamp movie November 15, 2008 This was a great movie; simple, action vampire film. I cant help thinking that they could have made more out of the story line though; the concept of vampires having a party in alaska is an intriguing one. I would not say that it is the best vampire movie of all time though...I saw some review say that (probably a review by Jonathan Ross)
could have been so much better November 6, 2008 30 days of night? well, actually it's more like 3......day one suddenly becomes day 18 (what happened in the intervening 17 days stuck in a freezing cold wilderness with no heat, energy and limited food? - Josh Hartnett grew a little beard....hmmmm) and then we move swiftly to days 29 and 30 (beard growth....check, no other ill effects from spending a month in said circumstance?.....check).br /br /Now I know it's a vampire movie so suspension of disbelief is a requirement but to lose 26/27 days from a film which is set over 30 days is just ridiculous.br /br /The other problem is the vampires themselves, they are just a bit.....well......crap really, yeah they look and sound good but they seem to be pretty hopeless, even though they outnumber the residents easily and have the advantage of superpowers and not being affected by the freezing weather (oh forgot, the residents dont seem to be affected either).br /br /But the real issue with this? The end - one punch? is that what it took to kill the lead vampire? - ONE punch - that's pretty much the worst vampire in cinema history - even the ones in the Lost Boys were tougher than that! - It's a cop out, like the director couldnt think of any other way to end the film.br /br /Throw in a unneccessary romantic subplot and you have a complete waste of 2 hours.br /br /Should have been called '3 nights with some soft vampires in the snow' br /br /Check out After Dark instead - 20 odd years old and way better than this nonsense. Actually, dig out The Lost Boys, that's better as well.br /br /
Blood! October 30, 2008 This is the best vampire film I've seen in quite a while, the market seems to be deprived of them at the moment. This combines vampires with action in an awesome way, there's plenty of blood, fire and explosions. If you're a gore hound, this is a must.
