Absolutely marvellous! October 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Set in the Devonshire village of Clatterford, Jam and Jerusalem depicts a slightly barmy but ultimately caring bunch of ladies, all members of "The Guild". A terrific cast of Sue Johnston,Joanna Lumley (how can we forget Delilah!),Dawn French et al make these characters so vivid and believable. A huge amounts of laughs and not a little pathos make these episodes watchable over and over again.
Wonderful July 25, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This show got very harsh reviews. It really is something special.. very thought provoking. There is alot of humour to be found in the little town they live in yet.. the situations are so true to life.br /I wish more people would give it a chance.
Brilliant July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Both myself and my kids love this series. We have sat and watched it several times already, since getting the DVD last week. Cant wait till the 2nd series is available. It is British comedy at its very best.
Utterly Scrumptious! June 19, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
How many times have I watched these two dvd's? Perhaps twenty plus times for each one and I never ,ever get tired of them! Like that other quintessentially english comedy,Fawlty Towers,Jam And Jerusalem improves with age.br /br /Set in a small farming village, and revolving mainly around the local branch of the W.I.,this is a bittersweet confection which never fails to delight!br /br /Check out Sue Johnstone as Sal,the widow who dares to join the W.I. She is superb,as indeed all the rest are! ,in particular the leader of the group, who is beyond compare!br /br /You'll also see smaller parts from the likes of Dawn French as a cheese factory worker,Jennifer Saunders as a rather posh yet slightly eccentric local who trains and judges horse-jumping shows and if her tales are to be believed, houses various rock stars in her spare time in between organising festivals, etc.br /br /joanna Lumley is also superb as an old hag who is completely off her trolley, and the local vicar who is always uptight is a sheer joy!br /br /Before I finish,I have to mention Tash,Sal's daughter, who is hilariously over-the-top as her hippyish daughter, refusing to grow up and accept rsponsibility! You can really feel the bond between Tash and her mum, amidst the agony and ecstasy of sharing the same house!br /br /I could go on and on about all the characters,as all are ace,but I have gone on too long already!br /br /Treat yourself to this 2 dvd-set,kick off your shoes and sink into a lovely, soft armchair with a mug of hot chocolate, and forget about the daily grind!br /br /Just fantastic!!br /br /Can't wait for series two!
  G. Harrison May 27, 2008 Can't praise this programme highly enough. Watched the first episode of Series 2 by accident on TV and was hooked - so much so I had to buy Series 1 straight away. It wasn't at all what I was expecting but the writing is impeccable and the actors are superbly cast. It is both touching and also laugh out loud hilarious. The banter between allies Sal (Sue Johnston) and Tip (Pauline McGlynn) has me stitches. Almost makes you want to join the W.I. Bring on series 3!!!!
