Amazon.co.uk review
IPrimeval/I may be a little daft, and it may be ITV trying to capture some of the success that the BBC has enjoyed with IDoctor Who/I, but for brainless Saturday night entertainment, it?s quite a blast. P Picking up from where the series before it left off, it finds Professor Nick Cutter and his team once again dealing with creatures quite literally out of their time. But this time, IPrimeval/I has a few more tricks up its sleeve. Because while the convention for much of series one was that the creatures that faced Cutter and his crew were arriving from the past, this time round there are monsters from the future to worry about too. Cue the likes of a woolly mammoth on the motorway, and a raptor-esque chase around a shopping centre. P IPrimeval/I then blends in some twisty narratives surrounding the characters themselves, which - while not particularly intricate or surprising - do keep the fun jollying along. And backed up with special effects that range from the very good to the slightly creaky, it does its best to throw as much at the screen as it can. P Superior to the season that preceded it, but still with some way to go to be regarded as any kind of classic, IPrimeval/I is nonetheless undoubtedly still very good fun, and the seven episodes here are suitable for family viewing too. Enjoyable, and worth checking out. --IJon Foster/I

5 out of 5 stars Great entertainment   May 27, 2008
ITV are to be congratulated on this sci-fi series. br /I think it borders on 'going where no man has gone before' and has the potential to become a classic.br /Time/space anomalies, ruptures in the space/time continuum, baddies trying to alter the natural timeline for their own advantage and an ideosyncratic bunch of heroes trying to save mankind.br /As well as all that it has creatures from the past, creatures from the present and one of the least predicable story lines.br /If you're a fan of sci-fi or fantasy this should fit the bill.br /Roll on series 3.

5 out of 5 stars COULD BE AS GOOD AS DR WHO TIME WILL TELL!!   April 23, 2008
I first of all watched the first series with my children and I have to say I really enjoyed it so I bought series 2 for them and me. I really do thing this could give Dr Who a run for it's money they are really going to have to pull out all the stops to beat it because Dr Who has been around since I was in nappies. We watched it yesterday and again totally brillant I think the special effects were slightly better in this series but overall very good family entertainment that you can go back and watch again. I think buying them in a double boxset would work out alot cheaper so go down that route!!

5 out of 5 stars anomalous anomalies   April 3, 2008

second season of primeval, a show about a group of people who hunt dinosaurs and monsters that get loose in present day britain via anomalies in time that bring the creatures through from either the past or even the future. br /br /If you haven't seen season one then go and watch that first, because the first episode of this continues right from where that left off, which was a major cliffhanger that altered the status quo of the show, and it doesn't make any concession to new viewers. so you'll be better off starting there.br /br /But for those who are familiar with the show, this is season one refined. more monster hunting, but the characters now feel more rounded and better developed, and there is an intriguing ongoing storyline as well. This is good solid and entertaining tv with some appealing characters and it's the kind of thing that the whole family can sit down in front of the tv together and enjoy. just like doctor who. and that's the only similarity it has to that show!br /br /The dvd spreads the entire series of seven episodes over two discs. the first disc contains the first three episodes, english language subtitles, and go to the extras menu to access a commentary from the writer and producers for episode one, and a documentary about the making of the show. this was written and directed and is presented by andrew lee potts, who plays the character connor. he does all the links in the documentary in character which looks as if it might be annoying at first but actually you'll find quickly that it works very well. running for over forty minutes it's a good and comprehensive documentary and very entertaining watching. br /br /a minor annoyance is the way the menus are presented as it scrolls all the options up and down. so miss what you want and you'll have to wait a few seconds for it to come back. but that's a minor irritation nothing more.br /br /disc two has episodes four to seven. for the commentary from the writer and producers on episode five, there's no extras menu, you just access it via the episode selection menu. br /br /An entertaining show, and a good dvd package for it

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Far better than Series 1!   April 1, 2008

If you saw Primeval Series 1, you'll already know what the show is about-creatures from the past and future coming through anomolies to cause havoc upon our world. However, Series 2 takes the show to new extremes; more action packed, funnier, more emotional. However, the only problems are; the fact that the series consists of only 7 episodes, and the fact that the DVDs lack all 'next time' trailers, 'previously' and the episode 6 cliffhanger, unlike series 1 did. But, anyway, well worth your money. BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars Reasonably family orientated fun   March 31, 2008

To be blunt, I get the feeling that people are looking for certain meanings in this show without getting the essential wonder of it. It isn't Dr Who, it isn't meant to be. Nor is it supposed to be War and Peace.br /br /What this show has got going for it is the wow experience. Imagine if you could go back in time, and experience these creatures, these time frames, the Permian, the Cretaceous, the Jurassic, whenever? The cast is wholly believable as people brought together by unusual circumstances and trying to make some kind of sense of it all while trying not to unmake the world.br /br /Created by the same guys who originally developed Walking with Dinosaurs, this programme opens up a world that personally, I wish I could explore. I love it simply for the breadth and depth of imagination, beautifully realised.
