A song, a song, high above the trees December 19, 2008 "Listen. Can you hear it? The music. I can hear it everywhere. In the wind... in the air... in the light. It's all around us." br /br /Short Attention Span Summary (SASS): br /br /1. Boy musician (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) meets girl musician (Keri Russell) and they make beautiful music up on the roof before going their separate ways br /2. Little orphan boy (Freddie Highmore) hears music in the wind and feels a connection to the parents he never knew br /3. Desperately seeking parents, he winds up in New York City where he is taken in (in more ways than one) by a man named Wizard (Robin Williams, channeling Fagin) br /4. He discovers a previously dormant musical talent, and impresses everyone br /5. Fairytale ending will leave you asking or more br /br /This movie is actually a modern day fairy tale, with an incredibly talented cast and a fantastic soundtrack. In fact, it is the music that makes it so special, and I can't recommend it highly enough. This is one to own and watch over and over again. br /br /br /"All you have to do is open yourself up. All you have to do... is listen." br /br /br /br /Amanda Richards
Rush To Buy This One ! December 4, 2008 Simply great feelgood movie and heartwarming storyline (and shhhh....happy ending). This is a massive and wonderful change from a lot of the cynical movies being churned out by Hollywood at this time. Do yourself a favour, buy this to watch over the holiday season, curled up on the sofa with a mince pie, a glass of wine and the love of your life:-)
You'll watch it over and over again! October 6, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This film is fantastic. I rented it and watched it 5 times before I took it back and then ordered one from Amazon. I'm not in the habit of watching films repeatedly, and neither are my family, but even as my sister watched it for the first time she said "can we watch it again when it's finished"! br /br /Perfect casting for the kid, he's amazing... adorable. The story is entirely music based, and even being completely tone deaf, I loved the whole thing. Buy it, rent it, whatever, just give it at least one watch :-)
Watch - listen - and enjoy!! October 1, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
"August Rush" is beautiful - the kind of beautiful that will make you laugh and cry, even though it has a foreseeable ending and it has a distinct Oliver Twist-y flair. br /br /"August Rush" is about the 11-year-old Evan, who has lived his entire life as an orphan, hearing music emanating from the world around him. The opening scene, where Evan is standing in a field of wheat, moving in the wind, perfectly encapsules this. Even is sure that his parents are out there and runs away from the orphanage/home. He arrives in New York and is guided by music. br /br /Music plays a crucial role in "August Rush". There is the classical cello for the mother, lead rock guitar and song for the father, the blues harmonica for the Fagan-character Wizard, and the composit sound of the city/environment for the searching Evan. Anybody in the movie has their own sound/music. br /br /For those of you who fear a too-sweet movie, let me say that there is no overly romantic and/or cheasy finale. THAT scene has thankfully been omitted. br /br /Oh yes, I have to mention the cast. This is one of those movie with a great ensemble casts. Robin Williams' eccentric and slightly crazy Wizard does seem a little on the over-played side, but the rest of the cast fill their roles to perfection. br /br /Watch - listen - and enjoy!!br /br /Louise.
Rubbish September 21, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Looked promising so we took a chance on it however this proved to be a big mistake! Judging by the other reviews on here I think this is one of those love it or hate it films and we fall into the later catagory. The film is slow moving, totally unrealistic and poorly acted even though the actual cast is a good one. Overall I would say this is one of the worst films we have ever seen!
