Will this ever happen? November 7, 2008 Why is "smith & jones" delayed again? It was announced to come out in october 2008, but this never happened! I've been waiting for a S&J-DVD for years. Maybe the BBC made up their minds and will release a full collecton of all episodes. But alas, I fear they won't do it...
WHY "BEST OF"??!! WHY NOT THE COMPLETE SERIES??!! September 4, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am a huge fan of Not The 9 O'Clock News and was pleased to see Smith And Jones finally coming to DVD after many unexplained delays. But WHY does it have to be "best of"??!
I was too young to have seen the original airing of this series, and like so many other classic comedies (eg. Not The Nine O'Clock News) I probably never will, because the BBC refuses to repeat the full series or release the full series' on DVD. Everything is always "best of" - WHY??! I was really looking forward to finally being able to see Smith And Jones in full. And then I read on another website that this DVD is "the best of series 1-4". Why can't the BBC just release the complete series and let me decide what the "best" is. I don't appriciate a handful of high-up BBC "experts" cutting and chopping sketches around to make a long-running, highly-rated comedy show fit onto 1 disc consisting of THEIR OWN PERSONAL OPINION.
I already saw the "best of" Smith And Jones with the sketchbook series they made in 2006. I liked it, and it whet my appetite, so I want to see the ENTIRE series.
Like so many other "classic comedies that will be enjoyed forever" (as the BBC is so fond of saying in documentaries) this comedy gold sits rotting away in the BBC archives, while the BBC boasts about how good the programme was and how extensive their archive is. That's all very well and good, but if it's not accessable to the public, then programmes like these are as good as forgotten anyway...
Finally!!! August 17, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
How long has this taken!!! I have been waiting for Smith & Jones for an eternity. This series was better than "Not the nine o"clock news". The question is - what does volume 1 mean? Not another best of like "The two Ronnies"? What the S&J fans want is series 1, series 2 etc. - not selected sketches that have been edited, as was the case with "The best of Not the nine o'clocke news".

BBC why are you such idiots?! We have been waiting years for Alas Smith & Jones & Harry Enfield to come out on DVD and you keep pushing them back and back and back-WHY?! I mean, you can get BREAD on DVD for pete's sake-how messed up is that? Please get you act together and let us see some classic 80's comedy from some of the top men in the game!
