Amazon.co.uk Review Ignore the fact that ITV, bizarrely, decided to meddle with its UK transmission of iPushing Daisies/i by lopping out an entire episode. Instead, consider giving this box set a chance, which brings together every episode--fully in tact!--of one of the most interesting new shows to come out of the States.p The concept behind iPushing Daisies/i is quite simple, but unsurprisingly, it doesn?t take long before it gets more complicated. It follows Ned, a young man who discovers he can bring the dead back to life for a short period of time. Inevitably, he starts using his gift on humans, solving crime as he goes along. Yet things get far more troubled when he then brings the love of his life back from beyond the grave.p In lesser hands, iPushing Daisies/i could so easily have gone wrong. But in the mits of Bryan Fuller, the man who previously gave us the terrific iDead Like Me/i, it really does work. The concept gels exceptionally well--thanks also to a cast led by Lee Pace and Anna Friel--and it?s an unpredictable programme that you simply can?t help but enjoy. On the downside, this maiden series is just nine episodes long, and that?s a pity, but a promised second series--off the back of this first run--is a very welcome prospect. --iJon Foster/i

Pushing daisies is nothing if not unique. January 4, 2009 I tuned in out of curiosity due to heavy promotion when the show premiered and was spellbound, it certainly was and still is unlike anything else on tv these days. It's just such a fun show, pure escapism and something that all the family could watch, unlike a lot of what tv offers these days. br /br /When you watch the pilot, it's just visually stunning, it must cost a fortune to make an episode of the show, it's cinematic quality. Not unlike Tim Burton's films visually.... br /br /The cast are superb and the chemistry between Ned and Chuck is great in particular.br /br /If you are hoping for murder mysteries like the ones on CSI, this isn't for you. But if you are willing to watch something a lot less realistic and more fantasy based, then you'll enjoy this.br /br /The premise of a guy who can bring people back from the dead and solves mysteries with his friends sounds interesting but you wonder will it get old quick and is it too gimmicky, well I certainly haven't tired of it yet. The fact that it is such a short season could be a big factor. I'm dying to catch season 2 which is just 13 episodes long since ABC network in the states has cancelled the show.br /br / I doubt ITV will bother with season 2 now, maybe they'll hide it away on ITV2 in some silly slot that it couldn't win in but I suspect it will be only accessible on dvd in Europe. br /br /Here's hoping though that it may be picked up by another network in the states, maybe a cable network with lower ratings expectations...br /br /Both ABC in the states and ITV in the UK are clowns with their scheduling of this show... ABC should have realised this is a family show that would thrive not in a midweek slot but at the weekend when family's are together more.br /br /Itv got it right with a weekend slot but 9pm Saturday night? br /br /It aimed the show only at an adult audience who expected something darker and probably more adult due to the post watershed time. Why didn't they opt to air it earlier - either before or after the BBC's family dramas on Saturday nights, look how successful Doctor Who, Merlin and Robin Hood have been for the BBC on Saturday nights. They know the audience for these shows and cater for them.br /br /I do hope we get more Pushing Daisies , short seasons like Lost now would be best and ensure that the audience doesn't get jaded. br /
Love, love, love it!!! November 14, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
When this series first came to ITV, they were really pushing the trailers, and I was determined not to watch it - never really been a fan of Anna Friel. However, accidentally saw the end of one episode, and was hooked! The relationship between Ned and Chuck is wonderful, Olive is fab, and Chuck's aunts are deliciously quirky. I even love the narrator, who I know annoys some. Whoever styled the characters and the sets deserves an award - the colours are wonderful, and the costumes cartoon-like, but they work. Lee Pace as Ned is sweet, and Anna Friel is a revelation - I am so impressed by her. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone with an imagination and a love of love.
Boring September 9, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
After a promising first episode I thought the rest of the series was boring. I didn't find it funny even though it's described as a comedy and I found the narration tedious. I didn't think that it was exciting at all and the scope of the story is very narrow. It was the same episode after episode.br /br /I stuck it out and watched the whole series, but I won't be watching the next series. This really doesn't deserve all of the hype and promotion it gets and I don't know why ITV chose this US drama to show primetime on ITV1, there are much more deserving ones out there. It should have just been shown on ITV2.br /br /
Imaginative and quirky August 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Everything about this works so well. The scenery is a cross between cartoon, theatre and dreamy, and the stories belong in there. The characters are individual and amusing, and the cast are obviously having a good time with the script and their roles, and for the nine episodes of season one there isn't a bad one. The down side to this dvd set is there's no extras, which is a shame. I would like to see the cast talk about it or the people behind the scenes who dream it all up but I haven't knocked a star off because of that. The series is original, fresh and welcoming each time I've sat down to an episode.
the facts are these August 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
pushing daisies is an american tv series. This is a dvd release of the first season, which ran for a mere nine episodes due to writers strike of the time curtailing it's chances of being longer.br /br /the show is about ned sparks, a man with an unusual gift. if he touches a dead thing, it comes back to life. but if it lives again for more than one minute, something else must die in the meantime. br /br /ned like pies. and runs a restaurant called the pie hole, where he makes and serves them. seemingly the only other member of staff there is olive snook, a short lady who works as a waitress and has a crush on her boss. which he hasn't noticed.br /br /ned uses his ability in partnership with emerson cod, a money loving private detective. he will bring murder victims back to life for a moment, so they can tell him who killed them. if he touches a dead thing before the minute is up then they die again. this way they can collect the rewards for capturing the killers, and nobody else has to die in the meantime.br /br /ned has a dog called digby. which was the first dead thing he revived when he discovered his talent. digby has been around ever since and thus ned can't touch him. br /br /his world is changed when his childhood sweetheart, a girl called chuck, turns out to be the latest murder victim. he can't bring himself to not let her live again. and thus she joins them in life at the pie hole and solving crimes. ned and chuck are clearly mad about each other but can't take that any further, because they can't touch.br /br /and that sets the scene for this most unusual and radically different of tv shows. this is because it's incredibly stylised, all shots being brightly coloured and carefully staged. an amazingly whimsical show, narrated by jim dale in a whimsical style, it meditates on life and love and the big questions in addition to providing the ongoing story arc of the relationships between the main characters and the mystery of the week. br /br /it has been likened to the work of film director tim burton, and that is an excellent analogy. you will either fall head over heels for this show and find it charming, or it may be too whimsical and different for your tastes. but if nothing else, it's certainly worth a look.br /br /the dvd contains the nine episodes of season one, spread over three discs. each disc offers you the chance to turn off the recap at the beginning of each episode should you so desire. There is no direct scene access. the only language track is in english. and there are subtitles in english and dutch.br /br /also note that if you saw the show when it was recently broadcast by the terrestial station ITV one, they missed out the second episode for reasons that all rather academic now, so this is your chance to see it should you have not managed to catch up with it since
