Amazon.co.uk Review
It?s not a romantic comedy that?s going to set the world on fire, but IThe Accidental Husband/I has enough in its locker to give you an easy night in front of the television. p IThe Accidental Husband/I pits Uma Thurman as a radio talk show host who, in the course of her programme, takes a call from a bride-to-be. One chat later, and the caller has dumped her fiance (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and he?s not too happy about it. To get her back, he engineers things so that he?s married to her without her knowledge, and the rest of the blanks you can probably fill in yourself. p While the premise is forced and a little muddled, IThe Accidental Husband/I nonetheless entertains perfectly well, primarily due to the work of its cast. Thurman is in fine form here, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is certainly one to watch too. It was a wise move too to bring in Colin Firth to firm things up as Thurman?s existing boyfriend. p IThe Accidental Husband/I never has pretensions about ripping up the romantic comedy formula, and as such contents itself with offering a perfectly amiable way to spend an hour and half. You might not remember too much about it, but you?re more than likely to have enjoyed it. --IJon Foster/I

2 out of 5 stars Let down   January 6, 2009
I normally love a good romantic comedy and was all set to enjoy this latest offering to the genre. I'd seen the trailer and wasn't too overly excited but expected an enjoyable couple of hours distraction. What a dissapointment! The film launches head first into a really poorly developed and written storyline, the premise is promising but never delivered upon. There is no real background on Uma Thurmans character and from the start she comes accross as stuck up, cold and very unlikeable and not a lot in the film changes that opinion of her. A lot of the leading romantic female leads nowadays like Katherine Heigl, Kate Hudson, Reese Whiterspoon etc seem at home with slap stick humour and generally making fun of themselves to deliver the joke, unfortunately this is not true of Uma, you cant help but feel embarassed for her, especially as she's obviously trying hard. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is really sweet and nice looking, but his constant intense teary eyed gaze kinda wears thin pretty quickly, especially when he apparently realises that he's totally besotted with the object of his revenge plan after spending two minutes in her company. On the plus side Colin Firth does exactly whats expected of him, and the Indian extended family scenes are quite funny. Overall it was just a big fat let down, i kept watching till the end hoping it would get better. Maybe i'm cynical and just jealous men like JDM and Colin Firth arent fighting over me ;)

1 out of 5 stars Advert for Indian wedding   January 5, 2009

I waited to watch this film, and rented it on DVD. Only to be dissapointed with it. There isn't enough in the story, the adverts show most of the film that's worth watching. And it was heavy on the Indian family theme, which is fine if you like that, but I was expecting a better film.

3 out of 5 stars Fun fluff   October 12, 2008

Yeah, it won't win any awards but I enjoyed this film. br /Basically a woman calls Uma Thurman's talk show saying she's got cold feet about getting married. She has the perfect man (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) but because he's fun and macho and unpredictable Uma tells her to call it off. br /Ok, so that's highly improbable but what he does next requires you to really suspend disbelief. br /Poor old Colin Firth does the stereotypical Brit thing (do American's think we're all so uptight?) and little else. Uma to be honest isn't that likeable until the final scene which is cute. br /This is one for Dean Morgan fans or basically any woman that gets hot for firemen (all of us right?).br /br /Sunday afternoon fodder!

1 out of 5 stars AVOID!   October 2, 2008

The title sounds great and makes you want to watch but after viewing you're left bitterly disappointed.br /br /It's Too predictable and there is limited chemistry between the cast. Don't really see were the "comedy" comes into it.br /br /My advice is avoid this film.br /br /If it wasn't for Uma Thurman's acting this might possibly have been straight to dvd, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's average performance was a let down and Colin Firth wasn't particulary outstanding either.br /
