Amazon.co.uk Review Like Owen Wilson himself, iDrillbit Taylor/i has a loose, shaggy-dog appeal. Wilson plays a homeless ex-soldier who wants to emigrate illegally to Canada--and when three misfit high-school students hire him to protect them from bullies, he sets out to fleece them for the money he needs to get away. Naturally, this being a formulaic crowd-pleaser, he bonds with the kids and discovers that maybe his life isn't so worthless after all. Fortunately for moviegoers, the creators of iDrillbit Taylor/i (including co-writer Seth Rogen, star of iKnocked Up/i) have the wit to tweak the formula and give what could have been prefabricated and bland some grit, surprises, and genuine laughs (as well as an allusion to this movie's obvious inspiration, the 1980 teen-movie classic iMy Bodyguard/i). While nowhere near as funny (or as rude) as Rogen's previous co-writing effort, the dorkily sublime iSuperbad, Drillbit Taylor/i benefits from a similar grasp of the genuine cravings and frustrations of adolescence. Still, it's Wilson's movie, and his slacker-romantic rhythm gives the humour its swing. Also featuring Leslie Mann (iThe 40-Year-Old Virgin/i), who is woefully underutilised as Wilson's love interest. One sneaky bit of casting: The main bully is played by Alex Frost, who played an unhappy teen driven to shoot up his school in director Gus Van Sant's iElephant/i. --iBret Fetzer/i

Laughs all around October 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have never seen a funnier film (maybe apart from 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles'). I will enjoy this film for as long as I live. I would recommend it for 9-?. br /br /The basic plot is that three boys are just starting high school. Soon they attract the attention of the school bullies. These guys will not leave them alone. So much so, that they put up an ad for a proffesional bodyguard. They get numerouse responses, all of them impressive, but too expensive. Step in Drillbit Taylor. Posing as a retired bodyguard of former presidents and Sylvester Stallone and a war veteran, he offers affordable prices. The boys hire him.br /br /Without wishing to give away the plot to those who have not seen it, this story takes some interesting turns, for bad and for good. The acting is brilliant and humorous, particulay the children. I stress the point: YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM, BUY IT NOW!
Enjoyable July 1, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Agreeably not a oscar winner, but good fun nonetheless, with many of the jokes original and not fart orientated. But seriously, buy this NOW.
My Superbad Bodyguard June 28, 2008 1 out of 9 found this review helpful
Imagine Superbad (minus the profanity and humor) mixed with My Bodyguard (minus the smarts) and you'll get Drillbit Taylor, a watered down, brainless high school movie about freaks and geeks.br /br /br /Homeless slacker with a planbr /Convinces kids that he's the manbr /To save them from their high school woesbr /Heigh ho, heigh ho, and off he goesbr /br /A drifter, con man and a thiefbr /He's fishing for a maple leafbr /But soon succumbs to greater greedbr /Instead of only chicken feedbr /br /He takes the boys under his wingbr /And soon he gets into the swingbr /And though his pupils try their bestbr /The bully's clearly not impressedbr /br /Predictable and full of holesbr /Like many Owen Wilson rolesbr /Take this Drillbit off your listbr /A bogeyed hole that's better missedbr /br /br /Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):br /br /1. enjoyable escapism April 9, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The only reason I saw `Drillbit Taylor' is because my friend has a bit of a thing for Owen Wilson, not expecting much but fulfilling my duties as a friend I begrudgingly went along. What I did not expect was to see a genuinely funny and enjoyable film. Ok, so the plots not overly intelligent, three newcomers to high school are being bullied, so they hire the services of a bodyguard: Drillbit Taylor (played by Owen Wilson). What we know, but the kids don't, is that Drillbit is actually unemployed and homeless and doesn't really know anything about being a bodyguard. This is where the majority of the comedy stems from; Drillbit's attempts to train the kids, in often bizarre ways frequently leads to laughs. br /Admittedly the second half of the film slows down slightly, as we learn a message of friendship and standing up to bullies; but don't take this as a criticism of the film. Indeed this films genuine and heartfelt message, showcasing the plight of the outsider is what makes this film successful.br /br /Not likely to win any awards, `Drillbit Taylor' is enjoyable escapism with plenty of laughs and a heart-warming message at the end.br /
