A murdered blackmailer... October 28, 2008

The Voice of Merrill made in 1952 is an interesting melodrama with atmospheric photography by Monty Berman and it is one of the early Tempean productions (Robert S Baker Monty Berman) and was made for around 20,000. See Odeon Entertainments release Blackout also from Tempean.br /The stars are Valerie Hobson towards the end of her movie career, Edward Underdown still a star name in British films at the time and James Robertson Justice and there are lots of other well known faces too...including Garry Marsh and Sam Kydd.br /The incidental music by Frank Cordell adds to the early 1950s feel and this film has much more of a first feature impact about it. Music was always an important part of a Tempean film and more often than not it was Stanley Black providing it. br /The film is directed and written by John Gilling who worked for the company on a number of occasions and one gets the feeling that such a team effort produced the goods to a high quality time after time.br /Odeon have produced an excellent liner booklet with plenty of stills and information on the actors, director and production company. Inside the DVD box is reprinted a trade ad from possibly Kine Weekly and this all adds to the great interest for the collector. Please note that the picture quality if definitely better than the sound which is somewhat distorted on the opening and closing credits. Overall, very enjoyable and leaving you wanting to sample more Tempean titles.br /
