Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Just what the world needs, another riff on that post-iPsycho/i horror cliche: the slasher movie. In this version, which considerably dumbs down the Lois Duncan book, the bad guy chases naughty teenagers with a hook, all the while dressed as a dark version of the Gorton's fisherman. They seem to have killed someone in a car accident while out partying, and a price must be paid. Nothing new is added to the genre by II Know What You Did Last Summer/i, though it would be unfair not to note that this does have some scary moments. That is about all it has, because as much as this wanted to be another iScream/i, it hasn't the heart or the script. It does, however, have the requisite cast of small-screen stars (including iParty of Five/i's Jennifer Love Hewitt and Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar) to have snagged box-office success, spawning a sequel. i--Rochelle O'Gorman/i

5 out of 5 stars Brill   December 12, 2008
I Know what you did last summer is a really clever slasher film. You might think it's going to be cheesy but its not, it actually quite original and nothing like Scream apart from the fact that people die. The villan who is a fisherman, i thought was not going to be very scary or as creepy as other horror villains, but was suprisingly haunting. The acting wasn't the best but you couldn't really expect much more from the cast of actors. But I do give them credit as they did in some scenes seem genuinely terrified and they do make you want them to stay alive, which is all you really need them to do. The pnly thing rong with the film which doesn't really matter is the fact that it doesn't matter if the victim is sprinting away from the villain and the villain is just strolling he always seems just two steps behind. Overall great film and some jump scenes.

5 out of 5 stars IN EVERY WAY BETTER THAN SCREAM   October 15, 2008
Be warned! This film is NOT for gore hounds although it is a slasher. There is no extreme violence here, but is is a lot more suspenseful than Scream or any other slasher film out there. The characters are sympathetic and you really care about them - very rare in this genre indeed. A descent entry in this genre, but as any slasher movie, not a must see. Simply put, my absolut favorite in this genre.br /br /ALTERNATIVES:br /br /Rosemary's Killer [1981] Ultra gory with excellent and most realistic makup FX by Tom Savini.br /br /See No Evil [2006] Disturbing but very good slasher with an above average story and suspense.br /br /Scream: Directors Cut DVD (Region 2 PAL Import) Unrated version of Craven's best film so far.br /br /Prom Night 4 - Deliver Us From Evil Best entry in the PROM NIGHT seriesbr /br / SEQUELS:br /br /I Still Know What You Did Last Summer [1999]br /br /I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer [2006]

5 out of 5 stars Mindless fun   July 29, 2008
If you're expecting originality you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting a faithful adaptation of the superb book this is based on you'll be let down. If you just want to sit down to enjoy a entertaining movie, that is well-acted (the supporting cast (Bridgette Wilson in particular) do as good a job as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Philippe Freddie Prince Jr.) you've come to the right page.br /br /br /Four friends run over a man dump his dead (?) body into the ocean after their drunken 4th July celebrations. One year later almost to the day, one of the friends receives a letter the game is on. As it draws to 4th July the letters escalate to hair cutting, disappearing bodies hit and runs. br /br /br /I must mention that the main `stalk n slash' scene is gripping, edge-of-your-seat stuff. I wouldn't really call I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER a slasher though; it's more of a suspense thriller. The film focuses revenge. br /br /The film relies on tension building suspense instead of blood and gore, like classics such as HALLOWEEN. I'm not saying that I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is on that level, but it is well done. The film is better then it's chief comparison SCREAM because it seems more realistic. br /br /br /br /br /One observation; I'm quite sure that the film had an 18 certificate in cinemas, while the DVD is certified as a 15. This makes me wonder over missing footage. I don't want to give anything away, but the killer has collected newspaper articles that detail something that seemingly has very little to do with the given plot. Just little things like that are winding me up. It doesn't spoil the plot or anything like that, so it isn't really important I guess.br /br /Also, Anne Hecht has a seemingly pointless supporting role. So where has any left out footage gone? It's not included as an extra. Are they going to bring out 50 DVD editions of this or something?br /

4 out of 5 stars I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER IS A GOOD ENTRY IN THE SLASHER FILM GENRE   August 18, 2007
I Know What You Did Last Summer or IKWYDLS from hear on out is an outstanding slasher film in the Post-Scream era.br /br /Plot: Four teens are driving down the road and accidentally hit a man and fearing manslaughter charges they dump the body in the nearby ocean. A year later each one of them receive notes stating the somebody knows what they did last summer and as seemingly harmless jokes turn into bloody murder they have to figure out who could've seen them that night and maybe the man they hit didn't die and he's back for bloody revenge.br /br /What a film! I had to chose between this movie and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter so I picked this movie and as I walked out of the shop I felt I had picked a dud so I put off watching this for a while and then one morning I decided to check it out and stuck it into by DVD player. From the first shot to the last shot this film is beautifully shot and directed. You get to know the characters and feel like you want to reach into your T.V. set and pluck the characters out of harms way and a lot of that is due the performances of the actors. Jennifer Love Hewitt was the perfect choice to play the heroin and Sarah Michelle Gellar delivers a heart wrenching performance and the audience really gets to know her more than the rest of the cast mostly to Mrs. Gellar's talent. Which brings up Sarah's chase scene. Words cannot describe the shear terror eating away at your body as Mrs. Gellar runs for her life from the killer. The director did an outstanding job with this sequence and it goes down in Chase Scene Hall as number 1. Remember the chase scene in Prom Night? Expect that and much, much more and you will be no doubt satisfied. Freddie Prinze Jr. is likable as Jennifer Love Hewitt's character's boyfriend and serves as a great red herring twisted around into s great fake reveal and Ryan Phillipe proves he can make the most unlikeable character likable and you can feel for him when he meets his demise. The rest of the cast are great and are there for fodder or red herrings. The only thing I have to say now is if you haven't seen this go check it out and you will now be disappointed. IKWYDLS gets 10/10
