5 out of 5 stars Classy stuff............................   November 8, 2008

At last the second series has been released. Outstanding as always, the second series is no disappointment.br /To top it all, included in the extras is the fabulous Master Class. Here we see Patrick and George in all their glory. Patrick's vocals bring tears to the eyes. What a wonderful voice he had and it is so sad that he died so young. I never tire of listening to him. George is a very talented pianist and he accompanies Patrick beautifully.br /I have waited many years for this set and it was well worthwhile.br /Buy it; Steal it; But Get it!

5 out of 5 stars Another dose of laughter from Stackton's finest !   October 20, 2008

[ Dear Ladies (Hinge Bracket) : Complete BBC Series 2 [1984] 'Dear Ladies' is a comedy about two upper class elderly spinster Ladies. This is a world of afternoon tea, smoke salmon sandwiches, or Emva Cream sherry. The ladies are Dr. Evadne Hinge, the one with the Brown half moon glasses on a pearl chain and Dame Hilda Bracket is the blond one with the lop sided mouth. There are many funny moments in this second Series. Dame Hilda picks a lovely red rose from the garden, she smells the perfume of the rose and ends up with a bee pearching quite happily on the end of her nose, Dr.Evadne has been up in one of the attic rooms since Wednesday and according to Hilda has been making ''the strangest of noises'', it turns out Evadne has been playing with The Flying Scotsman!, Dame Hilda whilst on the phone to their town clerk Teddy, is shocked to hear he has had it 'cut off completly', to cheer him up she tells him the joke about the mouse in the music shop, then advises him he should pay his water rates on time!. Dame Hilda goes hospital visiting (only the once) to see Evadne, they both decide Stackton badly needs hospital radio and who better to do it than them. Dr.Evadne is riding her faithful old tricycle and cart down one of Stackton's country lanes and dismounts to give a Donkey a carrot (and one of her best hats). Dame Hilda decides to take up Ladies golf, all she needs is a couple of balls, golf tee's, ''Aren't those pretty little candle holders'' and some clubs ''no thank you dear, we don't go out alot in the evenings''. This DVD includes 'Masterclass', where Hinge and Bracket teach two students all they know about music, if you look on the concert part of 'Masterclass', you'll see that Evadne is wearing a slightly different pair of Brown half moon glasses (with the usual pearl chain from her original glasses). George once told me that these new glasses were provided by the B.B.C. and were also used for Series 3 of 'Dear Ladies', to go with these new glasses the B.B.C. also provided a new chain, this was made of big glass beads and resembled Rosary beads and was first seen on 'Dear Ladies Series 3'. Evadne continued to use these new glasses with the new glass beads chain in live T.V. and stage shows, but Evadne soon reverted back to her original half moon glasses on the pearl chain (but the pearl chain soon broke). George told me as a replacement Patrick (Dame Hilda) gave him the Silver chain from Hilda's reading glasses. Shortly after this George bought a Gold chain for Evadne's half moon glasses, this chain was used nearly right up till the end of the 'Hinge and Bracket' act, However in the last year or so of the act, both the Gold chain and the glasses were replaced with another Gold chain, and a pair of Red half moon glasses. The magic of this wonderful double act is George Logan and Patrick Fyffe as Hinge and Bracket really looked like two elderly Ladies. This comedy series is the best tonic anyone could wish for.

5 out of 5 stars Even funnier upon subsequent viewings!   August 26, 2008

Yes, Hinge and Bracket are funny! Very funny. From your first exposure to them you will find them unimaginably entertaining. But I find them even funnier upon the third viewing or the fifth. Now how often does that happen? It is a rare occurrence indeed! And the happiest news of all is that Series II will be available on DVD soon. I simply cannot wait for the next set to arrive! The George Logan interview in the DVD Extras is of special interst - don't miss it!
