Pathetic August 21, 2008 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
Amazingly, the dumb morons at Optimum still think there is a market for widescreen films pannedscanned to 4x3. Even if this is open matte, it's inexcusable - the film is meant to be seen the way it's projected theatrically. A plague on those cretinous brainless congenitally stupid idiotic imbeciles.
What a disappointment! When are we ever going to get a widescreen version? August 5, 2008 34 out of 35 found this review helpful
It's a five star movie and one of my all time favourites but I have to knock at least a couple of stars off this Optimum release - not because of the film quality but because of the DVD transfer. The Amazon listing doesn't make it clear but you should be aware that this is strictly a full-frame, pan and scan version. Not even full-frame on one side and a letterbox or anamorphic version on the other. I wonder if anyone is ever going to get wise to what the legions of fans of this film are looking for? All we want is to see it the way it was originally meant to be seen and the way we all saw it on the big screen back in 1967. How hard can that be?
RELEASED AT LAST.............................. July 21, 2008 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Here it is at last, long overdue. Why is it that so much rubbish goes to DVD and yet we have been kept waiting for this great classic?br /A reconstruction, somewhat complete with poetic license, of the Great Train Robbery.br /The talents of the late and great Sir Stanley Baker evident from the start, he attacked each role with a sincerity second to none. What a great loss he was to British drama, taken from us at such a young age.br /This is a MUST-SEE film which should be viewed by all lovers of cinema.br /BUY IT!
Sixties gem July 12, 2008 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
At last after years of waiting, this film is getting a DVD release.Stanley Baker in one of his best roles as the man behind the Great Train robbery. The film is full of familiar faces and the story rattles along without any American "name"attached to bolster the box office. Why weve had to wait so long when Buster, which tells the same story albeit less well, has been avaiable for years is beyond me.A great little film well worth a tenner of anyones money.
Can`t believe it`s not widescreen.Thought we`d got past this point after 10 years of dvd. March 11, 2008 25 out of 27 found this review helpful
Superb film which has been languishing on a long deleted video but after many years of waiting we get a half-baked dvd release. What a shame!!!!
