| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review emBenidorm/em proved to be a surprise hit out of nowhere for ITV, earning not just good ratings, but a sizeable amount of acclaim for the sheer number of laughs it crammed in per episode. This second series picks things up again very quickly too, having immense fun with the notion of the British being away on holiday. pIf you?ve not caught the show before, the basic premise behind emBenidorm/em is that it follows a group of holidaymakers, be they regulars or new visitors, at the Solana resort. The writers take little time settling people in before they start having fun with traditional holiday scenarios, hurling their characters head-first into the fun and frolics./p pAnd it all works very, very well. Thanks to its pacey, energetic script, and a plethora of quite brilliant belly-laughs, emBenidorm/em is one of the most deliciously enjoyable comedies that ITV has produced in some time. And a lot of the credit for that too must be aimed in the direction of the cast, who are clearly having a ball here. Johnny Vegas, Steve Pemberton, Sheila Reid and Geoffrey Hutchings are among the highlights, but it?s an ensemble effort, and all the better for it./p pSeries two of emBenidorm/em features eight episodes, all of which are gathered together here. And with a great deal of rewatch potential, along with some uproariously memorable moments, the chances of you not thirsting for more come the end of the series are really quite slim. --emJon Foster/em/p

Jokes thinning out... January 4, 2009 Really, all of the cheap-package tour-Brit-tourist-yob and sexual innuendo jokes were used on the first series, by which standard the second series falls way behind. Had it not be for the introduction of 'Mel Harvey' and the few gags he bought from time to time, the 8 half hours left you feeling completely numb in the smile, titter and laugh department. The dog (bull) fighting sequence was pitiful and although we like to laugh at ourselves and like to witness the council house yob in us all (The Royle Family is a much cleverer example of good writing) the storylines in the second series of Benidorm were crass and obvious, some the scenes downright silly (the wheelchair confrontation, the Johnny Vegas paragliding ending, the arm wrestling sequence with it's obvious conclusion) and of course all the stereotypes (that 10 hours ago were mildy funny) and gay, anal, group sexual innuendo you can throw into half a hour was there for the hell of it. Seemingly all shot on location, can't have been cheap to make. Please don't go back. Rest on the laurels of series 1.
what a let down December 28, 2008 What a let down series two is!!! We have been waiting for months to buy series two of Benidorm but what a let down it is. What has happened to the writers? Some of the scenes bordered on the farical and were not funny at all. We are really disapointed with it, what a waste of money!!!

Another corking series of Benidorm.br /I found this to be even funnier than series one.Fair play to the writers and cast, they have done a fantastic job in entertaining the life out of me once again.br /Highlights for me was the bull fighting dog, Madge and Mel on 'Doggers' beach and not knowing about it and then being collared by Jacqueline and Donald 'oh yes' with their camcorder and of course Mel singing'Hey there lonley girl'in a high pitched voice.I will also never look at beef Medalions in the same light again after Madge called them Beef curtains by mistake.br /I can't help thinking the cast and crew had a bigger laugh making this than we do watching it though.br /I urge,no beg ITV to make series 3 [please god there is a series 3]into 12 hour long episodes.30 mins is not enough and I was gutted when I watched the last episode not knowing if there will be anymore.br /br /br /
Worth a go! November 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This wasn't bad but not as good as the first series however, still some funny moments.
A blast from start to finish July 23, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
So here we are back for a second series, and is it as good as the first one? In the words of Jacquelin "Oh yes!" In fact this latest series may even contain the best episode ever! And that's, in my opinion episode two - the one where new character Mel (Madge's new partner and owner of five sunbed shops) blings it up BIG TIME, by dressing up like John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever at the karaoke night. He then murders a classic song by attempting to sing it in the same high pitched vocal style as the original. It made me cry with laughter, and it's worth buying this DVD just for that episode alone.br /br /Benidorm is a real joy to watch, with a sharp script that is chock full of great oneliners, plus a superb cast that were so up for it - you could tell they were all having a blast - and so will you. How can you say no to this?
