A lovely film, very true-to-life October 27, 2008 This was a great film, I bought it on the reviews of others, and wasn't disappointed. All the characters are very good, it is a heartwarming, true-to-life film. Ralf Little was surprisingly good at being 'serious', very endearing - you feel for both the main characters the whole way through. Buy it, you'll enjoy it.
Refreshing to see a British Film **** October 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Goldby's full length feature debut stays within the pace boundaries of its situations characters. br /br /Great to watch an enjoyable British Film that does not disappoint.br /br /It's a `slow boil' offering honest fare, no easy fix `junk script' headiness, it's a film that can make you think.br /br /The Waiting Room stayed true to itself rich enough in story line to allow anyone who has `loved lost', to relate to some part of the different threads explored. br /br /Women will readily love it, men will warm to it. Couples can relate to the fragile ever present foibles traits of relationships, honestly portrayed on screen, mirroring the realties of love in this life.br /br /So partners beware, it should do well on DVD given its Christmas should fit well into a large stocking.br /br /I particularly liked the sound track, which complemented the film, amplifying conveying in music, the words actions on screen. The score really helped one immerse yourself in this credible slice of believable London living.br /br /The acting, of all generations, was sound across the board thought a fair amount of chemistry between Duff Little, though felt Graves only came alive towards the end. br /br /The time in the nursing home was well spent, providing Little with the well needed opportunity to develop his character, enabling a UK audience to dispel the youthful raucousness of his recent BBC3 days. br /br /Therefore, whilst some editing changes might have been made (like any debut full length feature), the script, direction, acting, music, camera/lighting/sound etc all combined to make for a sound satisfying film.br /br /TIMELY REMINDER... given the current credit crunch looming recession, potential investors of all types, may to well to spread their risk to fund such British home grown talent, than take an undue gamble on the markets at this time (even in the Great Depression, people went to see films). You may well loose your money with the bank, but an arts investment, is a proverbial 'celluloid legacy', you can be proud of (you may even make a handsome return on your investment).br /br /I look really look forward to Roger Goldby's next creative venture.br /br /Regardsbr /br /Rebel_Reviewer
Well worth a Look!! October 7, 2008 A chance meeting in a railway station waiting room is the catalyst for a romantic drama that carries an unexpected emotional punch. I really enjoyed this movie and though it treads the familiar territory of the romantic narrative - 2 people meet, fall in love etc.. - it takes risks by keeping the main protagonists apart for most of the movie. The film is about love; loss of love, need of love, falling out of love, love at first sight. Anne Marie Duff and Ralf Little are the leads who do great things with their roles but the standouts are Rupert Graves as the neighbour needing to regain his focus and his wife played by Zoe Telford who has a couple of fantastic scenes - the dinner party and the confessional in the gymn. All in all a great movie.
Brilliant film October 7, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just got this, missed it when it came out, why aren't more british films made like this?! A really strong moving romantic real film about people. About life. But not miserable for once. For me there was not one bum note. All the perfomances were excellent, particularily Ralf Little and Anne-Marie Duff. Anne-marie is always wonderful. but Ralf, I haven't seen him in anything like this before, playing a straight role, he's really good! Refreshing to see real characters on screen for once, that I personally could identify with. Made me think.
a beautiful, romantic movie - perfect for a date October 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My girlfriend wanted to see "Sex in the city", but (luckily) the tickets were sold out - so we saw this little British film we knew nothing about and decided to see it on the spur of the moment. What a luck we had! It is definitely the most romantic movie i have seen in a long time. If you ever fell in love at first sight with someone you meet on a train go and see this movie. You won't regret it. Highly recommended viewings for those early dates and more...
