Comedy Genius October 18, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This series is not only the best of the four blackadder series but in my opinion is the best British comedy series of all time. Each episode is fantastic in its own right which is testament to the outstanding comedy acting from the all members of the cast and the outrageously good script. It also gives an insight into the stupidity of war, and the tragedy of world war I as so many good men sacrificed their lives while their smug Generals were living the high life miles from the action giving ludicrous orders. The last scene of the last episode as all the men go over the top to face near certain death is extremely moving and is what sets this series out from all the rest. Rowan Atkinson is brilliant once again as Blackadder as he delivers his genius put downs and war weary observations such as below.
Bob: Oh, sir, sir, please don't give me away, sir. I just wanted to be like my brothers & join up. I want to see how a war is fought -- so badly!
Blackadder: Well, you've come to the right place, Bob. A war hasn't been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy, chief of all the Vikings, accidentally ordered eighty thousand battle helmets with the horns on the inside.
Hugh laurie and Tony Robinson provide brilliant support as George and Baldrick, but I think it is Stehpen Fry as the insane General Melchett who steals the show and virtually every scene he is in. Rik Mayall does run him close though reprising his role as Lord Flasheart (this time a flying ace) in the episode Private Plane. He gives a perfect over the top performance as the arrogant RAF ladies man obviously delighted he has lines such as "Just because I give the furniture multiple orgasm's just by sitting on it"
It's a series that demands repeat viewing and only seems to get better eact time you watch it.

Blackadder goes forth is a hilarious series. The characters are perfect, Blackadder who is cunning, Bladrick who is stupid and has 'cunning plans' and George who is tip top spiffing. all the way through it has many jokes but in 'The Big Push', it has a very emotional ending. this is a definite value for money, if you enjoyed all the blackadders before, you will love this one. Captain Darling is the sneery snooty guy that everyone makes fun of his name. The plots are all really good, and with all the jokes it is wonderful. My favourite part is when Blackadder searches through Baldricks emergency ration bag for when he is prison and finds many 'useful' items such as a robin hood outfit and a small painted wooden duck
Well, well, well! If it isn't old Captain Slack-Bladder! May 24, 2006 9 out of 10 found this review helpful

What a fantastic series, had me in stitches most of the way through with my favourite epsode definatly being general hopsital. I have seen some of the other blackadder series', and i think that none of them were as good as this.Definatley worth all the 5 stars for a great script and just great comedy all round. Unmissable, 5 stars, 100%, 10/10 - you know what I mean!
UNMISSABLE! October 12, 2004 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
I am studying WW1 in Literature and this series gets right to the heart of the message of all post-war literature that I have studied. It presents the truely horrific conditions of the average tommy and the sheer stupidity of those in charge. Mixed with the humour and irony of Blackadder, this series appeals to a panoply of human emotion. The last episode especially, captures the feelings of the soldiers and the prospect of 'The Big Push.' I couldn't hold back the tears. Amazing watching!
