Widely touted as one of the best horror movies ever made, Don't Look Now has to instead rate as a considerable disappointment when viewed in 2006. Whilst it benefits from a creepy atmosphere shared with many films of its era and is without doubt cleverly made, it is also savagely dated; the storyline might have been great in its day but the "twist" is very meek by today's standard (although the conclusion I would readily admit scared the hell out me) and the sound quality so poor that much of the dialogue is rendered incomprehensible at times. Classic films are often made obsolete by their success; they are copied and copied until the original material loses its power to shock and surprise - maybe that's what has happened here. As you will be able to see from the reviews here Don't Look now is therefore for students of films only, not the general punter. Sorry, but its true.

Arguably one of the all time greats DLN is far more than merely a horror film. Although disturbing, the plot, which involes a bereaved couple tryng to come to terms with the loss of their daughter focuses on this process of grief and how it can possibly be overcome by the use of mediums.
The Julie Christie character insists she has, through a medium, made contact with her dead daughter, whilst Donald Sutherland is resolutely spectical.
As the events unfold it is clear the Donald Sutherland character's specticism is, in a way, part of the couple's tragedy. The film is weaves images back and forth through the direction to give a rounded sense of the couple's grief and their love which has been tarnished by it.
The famous did they or didn't they sex scene is one of the most beautiful in cinema and not at all gratuitous in how it illustrates issues in their relationship.
Nic Roeg was nevr better than this, and if you enjoy this you should also check out Bad Timing, his 1980 film with Art Garfunkel, which is almost as good.

The film is undoubtedly a horror classic. I'm sad to see how facile some supposed reviews are here - it seems unless horror is totally in your face with a gory thrill every half-minute, a lot of people cannot cope. Camera work lighting and Venice itself are used to superb effect and the atmosphere is unforgettable.

Absolute pants, probably the most pointless, meanigless film we've ever seen. I've pulled better films out of my anus. This is to the horror genre what s Club 7 was to popular music - embarrasing to say the least - what did Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland think they were playing at? Maybe I'm missing something? A waste of 2.

Possibly the worst film i have ever seen !! I watched this so called horror with my girlfriend and after 2 hours of complete boredom we both still had no idea what the plot was meant to be abou,t with an ending you couldnt have made up if you had tried with no relevance to anything the previous 2 hours had show!!
